Golf IV / Jetta IV :: Fuel Gauge Not Correct After Fuel Pump Replacement
I recently had my fuel pump replaced in my 2005 GTI ... twice. Both times, the fuel gauge no longer shows a full tank, and doesn't show empty tank correctly. Is there some way to reset the gauge? Is the pump somehow tied to the gauge, or did the mechanics mess the float up when they changed the pump? Sadly I had it repaired somewhere other then the dealer.

My car just hit 70k miles, I have had no problems with my car since 28,700 miles. I kinda drive it like an old man I know I know I should be ashamed of myself lol. When do you find most 04 .:R's Waterpump/timing chains needing replacement? Just curious if I need to factor this into my budget.

View 1 RepliesGolf IV / Jetta IV :: VR6 Not Getting Fuel At All From Pump
Recently I bought a aem fuel pump only to find out it was for a vr6... go figure. so i said no big deal took it off and put my old one back on. Everything worked fine before now but now that i have put the old fuel pump back in i am not getting any fuel at all.
View 6 RepliesGolf IV / Jetta IV :: Transmission And Clutch Replacement
I am not very familiar with transmissions and clutches, hence I just purchased a used transmission for my jetta 1.8t, i was told that i might as well do the clutch while the transmission is getting done. I just purchased the car two years ago and the guy said that he put a vr6 clutch in. so my question is, what exactly will i need to get for both the transmission and clutch replacement. Like I mentioned, I only have bought the transmission so far.
View 6 RepliesGolf IV / Jetta IV :: OEM Muffler Replacement Without Lift?
I removed the old muffler but it was severed at the pipe so there was no issue getting it over the rear cross member. I dropped the center brace to remove the resonator from cat back.
My question is, is it possible to install a new OEM rear muffler without a lift? I have stands but I do not know of I can get it high enough, or if I even need to get it that high? Not sure the bend of the pipe before it meets the resonator.
Golf IV / Jetta IV :: Parking Brake On Its Way Out / Replacement?
I need to replace my parking brake, it is definitely on its way out.
What I wanted to know is, do I need a cable for each side or is there only one cable?
Golf IV / Jetta IV :: 2003 - Symptoms Of Fuel Pump Going Out

I have a 2.0 IV 5sd
Today it won't start, and there is not any smell of gas if I pump the throttle. How long to fuel pumps last?
Should I just replace it? I have to admit, nothing has gone wrong with this car since it was new!!!!!
Golf IV / Jetta IV :: SAI Pump Cutting On Randomly While Driving
I recently replaced my SAI pump rivets with stainless bolts so everything is nice and tight. However, the pump will randomly cut on and run for a few seconds while driving... i notice it usually when I come to a stop, such as at a stop light. I would assume this is because there is an air leak somewhere in the SAI system... sound likely? Maybe purge valve? I haven't yet had it pressure tested in case there is something I can easily to to rule out most potential sources.
View 8 RepliesGolf IV / Jetta IV :: 2004 VW GLI - No Power To Fuel Pump?
So after a long trip from my vacation I ended up running over a dead deer on my 2004 VW Jetta GLI 1.8T AWP. As soon as I hit the car turned off. I was looking around to see what the damage was and everything looked intact but my car still wouldn't turn on. I checked some things and came to the conclusion that there was no fuel running to the engine (whenever the key would be on the "ON" position the fuel pump didn't make the usual "whirring" sound meaning it was on).
So I checked the fuel pump fuse, that was good but when I checked if there was current in the fuse, there wasn't. Then I disconnected the fuel pump to see if there was current going through the connector and there wasn't. This led me to check the fuel pump relay. Relay looked good and when I checked to see if there was current going through to the relay, there wasn't. So my issue is that the car is not turning on because there is no current going through to the fuel pump and no current to the relay and fuse.
Golf IV / Jetta IV :: Can't Lock Up The Tires After Brake Replacement
Driving a 2003 GTI
My girlfriends dad and I just recently replaced my pads, rotors, and bled the brakes. He is a journeyman mechanic however he does not see a lot of cars, he mostly works on trains.
Short version is after this replacement I am able to press the peddle to the floor and not lockup or engage the ABS. Before with the old worn brakes this would be no problem to do. We tried bleeding a little more off the brakes to see if there was some air. no bubbles came out. he insists there's lots of brake power. I just find it odd that i can press the pedal to the floor board and not lock up the tires, or feel like i have any real emergency stopping power.
Golf IV / Jetta IV :: Car Won't Start After Dashboard And Airbag Replacement
I purchased a 2006 Volkswagen Golf TDI from the auction that had blown passenger and drivers airbag. I replaced the dashboard and both airbags, as well as the airbag control module and now the vehicle won't start. It started fine before replacing it.
The only code I got before was the 18996 Prior to this as well as a bunch of airbag ones (obviously due to the air bags)
Now the codes I get are:
Friday,05,December,2014,16:52:12:61795
VCDS Version: Release 14.10.0 (x64)
Address 01: Engine Labels: 038-906-016-BEW.lbl
Control Module Part Number: 038 906 016 AG HW: 028 101 255 3
Component and/or Version: R4 1,9L EDC G000SG 7000
Software Coding: 0150031
[Code] ....
1 Fault Found:
01314 - Engine Control Module
49-10 - No Communications - Intermittent
I cleared all of these codes and 01314 and 17978 are cleared but still won't start so I'm sure its just a matter of time before those codes kick in again. I tried searching these codes and still can't figure it out from all my research. Hopefully I didn't miss connecting something during my dashboard replacement?
Golf IV / Jetta IV :: Traction Control Light Came On After Tie Rod Replacement
Just replaced one outer tie rod end on my 2003 GLI yesterday. (ran out of daylight to do other side, now have another problem)...
Everything came apart and went back together fine with really no fighting. Got the alignment close, but will still need one done once I finish up.
Anyways, I am wondering what I possibly could have screwed up, because after a few miles of driving the traction control light (circle with triangle in the middle) came on and now won't go away. I didn't screw with any wires while I was in there. Pretty straight forward job, so I thought. I don't have a VAGCOM but there's no engine codes stored.
Golf IV / Jetta IV :: 2003 - Instrument Cluster Replacement
Currently my gas & temp gauges do not work, so I assume the cluster is shot or needs fixed etc. my question is can I simply replace it with a used one from eBay, or do I need to send this one back to be programmed? I was reading about the immobilizer which I assume the 2003 is subject to as well?
View 1 RepliesGolf IV / Jetta IV :: Key Won't Turn After Ignition Switch Replacement
I am having a little issue with the ignition in my car. I had the typical no headlights/wipers/heater etc. so I ordered up a new ignition switch and when I went to replace it, the switch fit perfectly and had the correct part number but when I put my key in to try and start the car I couldn't even turn the key but when I put the old switch back in it would turn just fine. Also when I removed the old switch I noticed the red wire going to the switch was slightly burnt right at the terminal.
Here is the basic procedure I did:
-Unhook negative battery cable
-remove lower dash/ center console
-remove switch
-install new switch
Whats this little metal piece? I did not see that when I did mine...
Golf IV / Jetta IV :: 2.0 AC Pulley Noise / Bearing Replacement?
Wondering how I would take the A/C pulley off to change the bearing or fix the chirp squeal it is making.
I have spun this pulley by hand and it is the culprit making the noise.
It has an inner pulley and an outer pulley(belt pulley). Both spin freely and are not bound up. Just want the terrible noise to go away.
Golf IV / Jetta IV :: 1997 - Coil Pack Replacement?
I had taken my engine into the shop and had to have to engine replaced, I would have done it myself and would have saved a bunch of money, however I did not have the time. So I had the same exact engine placed into my MK3 from an old Passet, the only issue I'm having now is the sounding of a misfire on one of the plugs..
Only thing is, all plugs and wires are brand new, so I'm thinking the Coil pack is on it's way out the door. The mechanic said it was the original coil pack so that would make sense. It's a 1997 2.8L 6cyl engine.. I'm looking into purchasing a new pack, and on a website that I had been using a lot lately, only had MK4 coil packs.. Can I replace an MK3 pack with an MK4? Would i have to change the plugs and wires again?
