Mitsubishi - Eclipse :: 2007 - After Sitting For 6 Month Burning Smell At Start Up?

Curious if this could be a normal thing from it sitting for 6 months... I have a 2007 Mitsubishi Eclipse.

Took the battery out for the Winter. Just started the car today only ran it for about 2 min when I went to close the hood after shutting it off I could smell a faint burning smell the smell resembled a burning rubber smell it was not strong but I also didnt run the car for long.

I amworried now to drive it or start it as I dont wanna cause harm what to do? I looked best I could and all the wires look fine.. no signs of chewing or anything.

Do you think its safe for me to start it and maybe just let it Idle and see if the smell fades? Im worried about it catching fire.

Ford F-150 - 1997-2003 :: 1999 - Won't Start After Sitting For Month - Fuel Pump Relay?

1999 4.6L won't start after sitting a month. Ran fine before, now won't start. Cranks fine. Cannot hear fuel pump turn on when key is turned. Fuel pump fuse is good.

Fuel pump relay clicks a few times when key is turned. Is this normal? I am hoping it is the relay and not the pump. What should I check next? The wires at the pump? What should they read?

Cadillac - Deville :: 1991 - Preparation Required To Drive Car After Sitting For 7 Month?

Since the end of September 2015 my 1991 Cadillac Deville has been sitting on the driveway untouched. I wanted to drive it again, but before I did I wanted to ask you, members of the forum, if there is anything I should do to the car prior to driving it?

The vehicle has been sitting there untouched for about 7 months and I’m concerned about the gas, potentially the oil. Just prior to it sitting there I had all of the fuel injectors replaced which cost a fortune, so I want to be sure to tackle this issue of bad gas in the best possible way.

A little aside, I know the Cadillac needs a new battery. I would also like to mention the last oil change it had was probably a year ago which I used full synthetic mobile one and I probably put a thousand miles on it since that last oil change. The Cadillac was in full working order prior to having it sit there for almost 7 months.

Golf IV / Jetta IV :: After Driving For 20 Minutes And Sitting In Driveway VR6 Start Running Hot

This only happens once or twice a week. After driving the car for 20+ minutes and sitting in the driveway, it will start running hot. I'd say around 230 degrees and it will stay there until I start driving the car again. I made sure the fans work and I also checked the coolant level and both are fine. What could be causing this issue?

Golf IV / Jetta IV :: Car Keeps Going Dead After Sitting

My girlfriend's mk4 Jetta is having some sort of electrical issue and she's about ready to sell it. It keeps going dead after sitting. We got her a new battery a few months ago after she bought the car because it kept going dead. So it ran fine for a bit then started doing it again. Tested alternator, checks out, tested battery, bad battery, took it to local vw specialist, they confirmed bad battery, so two weeks ago, we had a new battery put in. Ran fine for a week then started going dead again. All lights turn on, just a weird clicking noise coming from inside the cabin. She also has an hid kit in it that was just redone by a different shop here. 1.8t motor.

Golf IV / Jetta IV :: 2000 - While Sitting In Traffic Rpm Go From 900 To 700?

So to start off, I own a 2000 golf gls 2.0 it's got 182000 miles on it ... My rpm gauge does some thing weird intermittently. I have an exhaust on it so that's how I know this is happening.

I'll be sitting in traffic, idling, and all of a sudden my rpms go from ~900 to ~700. I start going and I shift into second and as I'm shifting the rpms fall really quickly and if I let it fall all the way it doesn't stop falling at 900 like it usually does. It goes all the way down to ~300rpms and bounces back up to 700. When it gets down to 300 the car starts shaking like it's going to stall and it barely catches itself.

Golf IV / Jetta IV :: 12v VR6 Won't Turn On After Sitting For Few Months

My 2000 GTI VR6 has been sitting around for a while (since Oct/Nov 2013). Now the car wont turn on. Dash lights up, and no clicking noise of dead battery (actually just put in a new battery). Makes those noises when turning on, but engine never gets going.

What should I check? Battery terminals seem fine. Coilpack? Corroded terminals somewhere else?

Golf IV / Jetta IV :: 2004 - Overheating When Sitting Still Or At Idle

I have a 04 jetta 1.8t that just randomly started having some overheating issues. I just got the car two days ago, and the first day I had it I replaces the coolant temp sensor due to a check engine light. Drove 50 miles and the light shut off. Just yesterday I was sitting in traffic and noticed the temp going above 190 (which it hadn't done in the 200 miles id driven it so far). I brought it home and once I was out of traffic and moving along the temp went right back down to 190. The only time it tries to overheat is when its sitting still or at idle (after reaching operating temp). which is weird.

I was parked in my driveway and let it sit at idle for a few minutes until the temp started significantly rising. i revved it to 2000 rpm (thinking it would rise even more), but to my surprise it instantly went down to 190 again. my big fan isnt running either, but my friend said he doesn't run fans in his and that it shouldn't overheat because of the fan. also, my top hose is warm to the touch, but the bottom isn't. I know your thinking thermostat, but if that was the problem it would :

1: always overheat, or
2: never overheat.

The temp wouldn't fluctuate the way it is.

Golf IV / Jetta IV :: Misfires And Stutters After Sitting In Heavy Rain?

I replaced the coilpack from the dealer last Summer. It got better as it wouldn't even start for a while after it finished raining. However it has still been finicky even after replacing it. Which brings me to the realization that water runs down the fender panel and ends up on the ground cable located under and to the right of the battery. Am I correct that this would cause the same symptom as a bad coil pack? It seems simple...move the cable right? However should water be doing that? Cause this little sucker is not stopping anything. Just need validation I guess...get new hood insert?

Golf IV / Jetta IV :: Condensation On Inside Windows When GTI Sitting In Driveway Unused

My Gti has been sitting in my driveway unused for a couple months now. The condensation in it has been unusually heavy when parked. The carpet is dry, doesn't smell damp inside, no coolant smell. Windshield was replaced 2year ago never had a prob with it so idk if it's that that's leaking, but what would the signs of that be? But what I really think it could be is that my recirculating flap is stuck closed. Could that be it?

Golf IV / Jetta IV :: 2003 VW Jerk Forward When Sitting At A Stop Light

I have an 03 vw Jetta 1.8t with around 100,000 miles and I recently ran into a problem with the car jolting, or slipping when I get on it hard. And also when I'm sitting at a stop light it will jerk forward like it wants to go. I've tried a few things like cv axels and some other things but I'm just hoping it's not the tranny.

Jetta - Volkswagen :: 1995 - Won't Start When Cold?

1995 vw Jetta 110K miles.. My car has a hard time starting in the mornings or when it sits idly for a while (when I park overnight) . On any bright and sunny day, it's like the car is brand new - starts with no problems at all. Tried several mechanics and none of them have been able to diagnose the problem. To make it simple, cold outside - car will not start, warm/hot outside car will start.

Golf V R32 :: Hard To Start On First Try After Sitting For An Hour Or Longer

So here is a little background on my car have owned it for 1 1/2 years, never had any issues. just recently over the past month the car has trouble starting the first try after sitting for a hour or longer. I took it to the dealer for an oil change and had them check the alternator, battery, and starter. All came back perfectly fine. I also had the spark plugs, and all coil packs replaced assuming this would resolve any issues.

So after doing all of that still have the problem, I have read numerous post that seem similar but have not seen an actual answer. My car is not throwing any check engine lights or anything. Trying to avoid taking it to the dealer to have them waste my time and money. By the way my car only has 38k miles on it second owner.

So far I see it could be

CTS
MAF
Crank Sensor
etc ...

Porsche - 911 :: 1995 - Stalls After Sitting In The Rain

I have a 1995 Porsche 993. The car sat outside in the heavy rain the other day for quite a while. The next day when I went to start the car it stuttered and barely turned over. I gently hit the gas and it took a few minutes to warm up - then it idled fine. I was pulling away and I noticed that it would idle fine but it only seemed to stutter when I hit the gas pedal. After about 20 minutes the effect disappeared and it ran fine. This is the second time this has happened and only after the car sat outside in heavy rain. I have read the other comments about stalling being due to water on spark plugs, wires or in the distributor cap, etc. (mine were replaced less than two years ago) so I wondered if my situation is different because it only seems to happen on acceleration.

Golf IV / Jetta IV :: 1995 - Random Multiple Cylinder Misfire?

I have a 1999.5 Jetta VR6 12v, last week the car would not start. After some tests I determined the coil pack had gone bad. Replaced the Coil with a brand New aftermarket German made coil. Now 1 week later, driving at highway speed CEL came on, started to flash and obviously misfiring again. Ran Codes and now im getting these DTC's:

1)random multiple cylinder misfire detected p0300

2) cylinder 4 misfire detected p0304

3) ignition coil output 3 electric malfunction p1395

4) cylinder 3 misfire detected p0303

has this new coil gone bad already after a week?

New issue?

Plugs were replaced less than a year ago, wires were apparently replaced by previous owner about 2 years ago now. Crank sensor replaced less than a week ago...

Nissan - Maxima :: 1995 - Dies After Sitting And Idling For Around Ten Minutes

I have a 1995 Nissan Maxima that dies after sitting and idling for around ten minutes. It also has been dying at stoplights, etc. It runs fine if I get the rpms above 1000. When it dies it restarts but often I have to push the pedal to the floor for a few seconds, then it seems to catch and run as long at the rpms are up. I have taken it to a place and due to it's age they couldn't do a diagnostic check on it. I've had the exhaust system replaced (it needed it), the spark plugs replaced, the coolant temperature sensor replaced but still no luck.
