Golf VI R :: Clicking Sound Audible With Windows Down Over 15 Mph

I have a clicking sound that seems to be coming from under the middle to rear of the car. Its audible with the windows down at anything over 15 mph. It sounds like some ball bearings are clicking around randomly and it's driving me crazy. I have continued to drive and nothing has hard failed yet after 2000 miles. My thought it was a front inner cv that went (grease all over) so I replaced that today, but no affect on the noise.

Other than wheel bearings, the only stuff back there is the haldex and shaft which could be big money. I know the shop I used had to remove the drive shaft to put in the exhaust- anything I can/should check on that?

Golf/GTI VI :: Clicking Sound Audible In The Cabin

I recently bought a 2012 Golf 2.5L, and I absolutely love it. There is, however, a very annoying clicking sound that's audible in the cabin. I think it's coming from the overhead console area, where the lights, bluetooth, voice command, etc. are located.

Basically, it sounds like two plastic parts rubbing against each other. At first, I thought it might have been the latch on the sunglasses compartment. Then, I thought it might have something to do with the plastic reacting to changes in temperature. Ultimately, though, I can't figure it out. I've heard this sound when the cabin is both cold and warm, on bumpy roads and smooth roads, etc.

I don't know if I'm being excessively anal, but I find it really distracting. Is this something I should bring up with the dealer, or is there a quick fix/common sense solution? I feel a bit silly complaining over something like this, but it's beginning to drive me bonkers. Other than that, the car drives great.

Prius (2004-09) :: Grinding Sound Like Grains Between Pad And Rotor While Braking

I purchased (2/17/16) a 2009 Toyota Prius with roughly 73,000 miles. I have recently (the past 4-5 days, except the brake issue that occurred a couple of weeks ago) encountered a number of issues. The issues occur intermittently.

First, while braking, usually when it's raining or damp outside, I might hear a grinding sound like grains between the pad & rotor. Or, the car will be gliding to a stop then at about the 4-6 mph range the brakes will grab and the car comes to a complete and abrupt stop.

Second, while idling in 'P' the engine will engage and the car will shift forward about an 1-2" then roll back (as if bucking). My foot is off the brake pedal. I have the sensation that the car is going to drive itself.

Jetta - Volkswagen :: 2003 - Grinding Sound Most Of The Time When Braking

My 03 Jetta TDI wagon, with 210,000 miles, had a grinding sound about 10% of the time when I braked, BUT ONLY AT UNDER 5 mph...that is the last couple of seconds before completely stopping. The car braked fine, but the periodic grinding worried me. Two weeks ago, my mechanic couldn't reproduce it; today, however, we did and he identified it as the ABS (and I remembered that sound from the couple of times the ABS has kicked in during winter driving. But my question was safety, and my mechanic says the car brakes fine...he has checked them all around and driven with me...and the fault is the ABS system and not the brakes themselves. Need to verify this? The car runs fine (I am the original owner, and for the first 7 or 8 years had it solely dealer maintained) and I plan a road trip this summer, but I need a little more comfort that the ABS acting up won't result in a more serious problem.

Impala - Chevrolet :: Grinding Sound From Driver Side Front When Braking

I have a 2003 Impala. Over the past couple of months I have had an occurance every so often, very random with my front driver side brake. In both rain and dry conditions, braking hard and just slowing to break I will hear what sounds like grinding when I brake, like you do when the pads are gone. Well, I have had the car in and the pads and rotor are fine, the place I took it to even test drove it and tried but couldn't get the sound. I posted here a while back on this issue and the view was that it might be the ABS, but when this occurs the ABS light doesn't come on and the sound is just coming from the driver side front. What my next move should be?

Toyota - Sienna :: 2008 - Slight Grinding Or Rubbing Sound When Braking

I have an 08 Toyota Sienna and yesterday I started to notice a very slight grinding or rubbing sound when I apply the brakes coming from the passenger side front wheel. I can only hear the grinding or rubbing sound when I am going very slowly (like the last 20 feet when approaching a stop sign). The sound pulses slightly like two surfaces that are not parallel are rubbing. There is no pulsation or wobble felt in the brake pedal. I'm thinking it's time to get the rotors turned, but it could also be the brake pads.

Civic - Honda :: 1999 - Rhythmic Thumping / Grinding Sound While Braking

I get a rhythmic thumping sound from my right front wheel when braking. The sound gets slower as the car slows, and when very slow sounds more like a grind than a thump. I can feel the vibration through the brake pedal. I've had this problem before, and had my wheel bearings replaced -- fixed the problem, but after about a year the sound came back. Just had the car inspected and brakes are in good shape (at least those parts checked out by the state inspection). Could it just be that I need to get the wheel assembly tightened up? (It's a '99 Honda Civic with about 145K on it, if that matters)....

Dodge - Caravan :: 2006 - Grinding Type Of Sound When Braking But Only When Come To A Complete Stop

I get a grinding type of sound when I am braking but only when I come to a complete stop and then again when I release the brake. It is only for a second but it is loud and doesn't sound good. What could be wrong. It also is much worse when it rains.

Elantra XD (2001-06) :: Grinding Sound On Initial Acceleration From Park / Scrapping Noise During Braking

2001 Hyundai Elantra, with an automatic transmission.

1. I am experiencing a "grinding" sound upon my initial acceleration from park? This only occurs when the car has been sitting for a decent amount of time and the engine is relatively cold. To give you more detail: I start the car, throw it in gear and begin to accelerate. The grinding sounds is almost instant and sounds horrible. It is fairly consistent how long it lasts and generally once the car shifts to 2nd or 3rd it goes away. I do not hear it again until I park, leave the car for a while, then start it up and begin driving again.

2. I am hearing a "tension" like noise, also a little like scraping, when I brake at slow speeds coming from my driver side front wheel. I recently had my brakes replaced so I know its probably not the pads and at the time the rotors looked fine too. It is not a constant noise during the breaking either meaning, I apply the breaks, i hear it for a second, then it goes again, then it comes back, then goes away. Again it sounds like a mix between scrapping metal and tension.

What it could be, what I could look at on my own or how to get it resolved?

Ford - F150 :: 2003 - Grabbing / Grinding - Metal Rubbing Sound And Shakes In Braking

I have 2003 F150 SuperCrew 5.4L XLT. For past month or so, have been hearing metal rubbing sound and had shakes in braking - as well as a "grabbing and pulling" sound near brake pedal - very aggravating to say the least. Weird thing is the grabbing and pulling sound only happens under 10 miles an hour or coming to a complete stop. (The grabbing sort of sounds like the sound the ABS makes when hit really hard)

Yesterday I had brakes and rotors replaced - mechanic said front rotors were beyond turning - very bad. 135,000 miles on truck. Felt more comfortable until I pulled out of shop and when I applied brakes, had the same grabbing/grinding sound, but no pulling. Went back to mechanic and had him ride with me to hear sound, and he is stumped.

Knew it was safe(r) to drive since new pads/rotors installed, but when I got up to 55mph and barely touched the brakes, the steering wheel began to shake violently - but no sound/grabbing from brake pedal area like I get when I am 10mph or under. Really at a loss right now.. What's going on?

Truck is a 2WD, also hear some thump thump thump sounds from front left tire, which are only one year old, but tire man said that was from suspension arm or something - nothing to worry about he says.

Some people have said "bearing" or "hub" but when brakes were replaced, the bearings were repacked...is this the same thing? Is the current problem safe to drive with? I do not take vehicle out of the county - just to work and back and hunting on weekends.

Santa FE SM (2001-06) :: Brake Pedal Is Very Soft And Goes To The Floor Before Braking Occurs

Here's the short of it. 3rd time in a year the brakes on my 2005 SF (177K miles, 2.7L) have gone out.

The brake pedal is very soft and goes to the floor before braking occurs. Typical signs of a bad master cylinder.

The first time was a year ago. I bought a re-manufactured master cylinder, change it and bled the brakes. Worked like a champ and lasted 10 months.

To months ago same exact symptoms. I assume it was a bad re-man part. It's under warranty, not big deal. I do warranty exchange, bleed system, brakes return. All is good.

Less then 3 weeks later, brakes gone, same symptoms! This time I spend the difference and get a brand new OEM cylinder with reservoir. Replace, bleed, problem fixed. Brakes go out in less than a week.

I'm not leaking anywhere. Reservoir is to corect level. ABS light is NOT on. No chattering in brakes. Braking is smooth both when power brakes work and when not. No visible damage to calipers. I'm 99% sure there is no air in the system, but I'm going to try bleeding again. I have not put it up on a lift to yet to check all the lines.

Lexus RX 2010-15 :: 2014 RX350 AWD - Brake Pad Feels Soft And Braking Is Not Very Efficient

I just got my new 2014 RX350 a few weeks ago. After these weeks drive, I feel the Brake is kind of soft and unsensitive.

When I braking, the first part of the brake pad feels soft and the braking is not very efficient, until I push a lot of the brake pad, the braking becomes confident and efficient.

I used to drive my 2006 Nissan altima , and feels the brake pad is very sensitive. My new lexus makes me a little bit unconfident when following a car in a short distance.

Ford - Ranger :: Brake Pedal Goes Soft And Braking Power Drops When Sharply Turn Left

I have a 2001 Ford Ranger 4x4 that developed an odd problem almost two years ago that no mechanic I've taken it to has been able to find and fix, and I and my more car-savvy friends haven't had any luck with either.

About maybe 50% of the time when I sharply turn left (only left, never right) the brake pedal goes "soft" and the vehicle's braking power drops dramatically (but not entirely). Because of the sharp angle required to make this happen, and the low speeds I have to be moving at to even handle that sharp of a turn with this vehicle, this has only ever happened when I pull into a parking spot, and the vehicle still manages to come to a complete stop safely before being in danger of hitting anything. It never ever happens at any other time, and brakes like a champ normally.

I've had numerous other issues with the brakes in this vehicle in the last two years, all of which I've fixed. This one eludes me and every mechanic I've taken it to, though. I've replaced both calipers, both rotors, the brake pads, bled all four brake lines, and had the ABS control unit and ABS motor replaced.

At the time the issue first appeared, I had two damaged calipers caused by shoddy brake pads disintegrating on me (almost new, barely worn, but covered in pockmarks, looked like a Michigan road) and clogging up the calipers. That caused the vehicle to lurch to a halt with screeching tires if I so much as barely tapped the brake pedal. Replacing the calipers and brake pads fixed that issue, but did not fix the soft pedal issue when turning left. I ended up with the same screeching sudden stop problem recently when the ABS module went bad, replacing it fixed that, the brake pads and calipers are still in good condition, and replacing the ABS did not fix the soft pedal issue.

Prius (Gen 2) :: Ticking Sound Audible At Stop

Prius (2010-12) :: Rattling Sound In Drivetrain Audible At 60 To 70 Mph

I have 70,000 miles and this weird rattling somewhere in front, probably drivetrain, only audible at 60-70 mph, medium load, so no pinging. worse on high speed right turns, like highway entrance, and in this circumstance audible at about 50mph.

I recently did cleaning of intake manifold, EGR pipe, and TB and an oil change and no change. The noise is totally absent in city/suburb style of driving with speeds up to 50mph. what could that be? It's clearly getting worse. could it be connected to the CV clicking noise i have at slow speeds?

I searched some more and there are few threads about noise that sounds like pinging, but doesn't behave like pinging. no resolution except for the standard advice about higher octanes and gas additives:

-Engine ping under load
-Higher octane gas for fuel pinging
-Engine pinging

Golf/GTI VII :: Clunking Sound Coming From Rear While Braking?

I have been getting a clunking sound coming from the rear of the car while braking. it was louder and more frequent before a few things were done by the dealership in an attempt to fix it, however i still have the noise fairly often during normal driving. This is three months into the issue and i still don't have a solution from the dealer or VW. Things that have been done so far by dealership:

1. replaced left and right side rear caliper brackets

2. replaced rear brake pads

3. surfaced rear rotors

All of the above were recommended by vw, according to the dealership. there are notes on the last invoice that the noise was described as "pad slap." everyone involved is acting as if this is a great unsolvable mystery, which seems ridiculous on a new car. i first came to the dealer with the problem with 512 miles on the car.

Just got the car back this past thursday from the dealearship, 2 and 3 from the list above were completed, and they were "unable to replicate noise" during a test drive. after driving around over the weekend i've confirmed that the noise is still present (though less loud and less frequent), and was able to capture it on video--after the turn signal turns off: [URL] ....

i'm not the most knowledgable or mechanically inclined when it comes to cars, so i don't really know what to think of this. google searches turn up that many people have issues with clunking sounds from floating calipers, some say that it's normal, other that it's not. this is my first new car, first car with floating calipers, first VW, so i feel i'm coming at this pretty blind.

Lexus SC430 :: 2002 - Whirring / Fan Sound Was Audible In Trunk

So, last night I was driving with radio off and a "whirring/fan" sound was audible in the rear of my 2002 SC430 - a sound that I have never heard. The sound seemed to resonate from the driver side, access panel (which I believe holds fuses and other systems for roof). After the vehicle was stopped and restarted the sound continued. Now today, I insert the key into the ignition - no sound; turn to accessory - sound is audible; started vehicle and did not hear sound. Second time I repeated and sound was heard; started and did not hear sound, Third time I repeated and no sound heard in accessory start position. What the heck is this? Any diagram of the trunk and what components are housed in the center bay? Does this vehicle have any auto-leveling function that activates?

Prius C :: Audible Ongoing Clicking Sound Whenever Radiator Fan Turns On

I recently got rid of my 13' Si and joined the Prius C family a few days ago. It was a big change change going from a high revving engine to a hybrid.

Over the last few days I've been figuring out all the different noises the engine makes. At this point I've figured out what all them are and that they're pretty much all normal sounds from a hybrid. There is one noise in particular that I have not been able to figure out if its normal or not.

Whenever the radiator fan turns on there is an audible ongoing clicking sound. It almost sounds like the fan is hitting something yet when the motor stops running and the fan is winding down the noise isn't present. You can't hear the clicking from the inside the cabin or even outside the car, the noise is only audible when to hood is popped.

I'm aware that I can drive to dealer and test one of their Cs but the drive is quite far. 2014 Prius C...

Golf V R32 :: Rubbing Or Grinding Sound Under About 20 Mph

It started a couple months back, under about 20 mph I feel/hear a rubbing or grinding sound. Appears to be coming from the front end, I put I on a rack and drove it but couldn't isolate a cause. I rotated the tires, replaced the brakes to be sure there was no warping. Everything looks good, but something clearly isn't.
