Sonata I45 (YF - 2011+) :: New Front Brakes Still Squealing After 2000 Miles

Mostly highway miles. Squeal doesn't happen all the time, only sometimes.

The pads I bought were from O'Reily's here and I believe they were BrakeBest Ceramic brake pads. Should I give it some more time for the squeal to go away? could it have been a poor brake job? (I didn't do it)

Prius (Gen 3) :: 2012 - Squealing Heard From Rear Brakes

So, my 2012 Prius has 61,000 miles and I started hearing some terrible squealing from my rear brakes. This weekend, I decided to take the tires off and investigate. Turns out, that my rear pads were worn to metal.

I switched the pads with new ones. The rotor was still new and didn't need replacing. Torqued the caliper bolt to 25ft/lb and put it back together. However at the end, I forgot to put back on the two wire clips take keep the brake pads apart!

Do I need to put these clips on? I'm too lazy to take my tires off again.

Lesson learned: Turn clockwise and PUSH the rear piston at the same time to get it to go back in. Turning it alone does nothing.

Brakes - Hyundai - Santafe :: 2009 - Squealing Rear End

I commute 35mi everyday. It's some stop and go, but at times it's a winding raceway up the valley. Yesterday about 45mins/25 miles into the drive I notice a squeak that's in rhythm with the speed of my car. Braking would dampen the noise, but it would return. I drove it over to the dealership where I work. They say they're booked, but they might have time to look at it in the afternoon between some other appointments. They call me about 2:30pm and say they drove the car around at 30mph, 40mph, and 50mph. No squeak. They say they'll take off the tires to look around. They call me again in 30minutes to say the car is ready, they didn't find anything. My drive home was quiet. Btw it was damp, but not raining yesterday morning. The afternoon was in the 80s and sunny.

This morning it was very damp and misting on the way to work. As I slowed for a toll booth the squeal reappeared and lasted for a few minutes as I got back up to speed. Then it disappeared. I had an idea it was a bad wheel bearing. I remembered reading that driving the car in circles clockwise and counter clockwise could identify a bad wheel bearing. I found an empty lot near the dealership and proceeded to drive in circles 25mph, but fairly tight. Not a peep out of the wheels except for the occasional squeal of the tires. Disappointed with my test, I drove right past the dealer quiet as a mouse.

Finally as I pulled into my work parking lot the squeal reappeared. I found an empty section of the lot and retested my circle hypothesis. Going in circles actually quieted the squeal in both directions. As the car returned to a straight course the squeal reappeared.

Brakes :: 08 Scion XB - Horrendous Squealing Noise Coming From One Of Rear Wheels

I have a horrendous squealing noise coming from one of my rear wheels. Sounds bad at low speeds, changes frequency to higher pitch when going faster. The sound isn't constant (some times nothing), other times loud as hell. Sometimes gets worse when turning, then nothing when straightened out. When breaking, sometimes the sound gets worse, then goes away. It doesn't sound like a bad wheel bearing (had one go before- more of a growly noise). This sound is too high pitched. Also, checked the brake pads (plenty of life left), and rotors are good too.

Dodge :: 2008 - Rear Passenger Wheel Squealing When Brakes Applied

I have been doing my own brakes for years. I have had some that were not easy to keep from squealing but this one has me wanting to get rid of the car. We have a 2008 Dodge Magnum R/T package. Roughly 38K miles on the car. When the car reached around 10K miles the rear passenger wheel would squeal when you applied the brake. Rotor surface was smooth as glass. I took off the rear rotors only and had them turned. Problem went away for about 5K miles. Then the fronts started squealing.

I replaced the fronts because hte factory did not leave any material to be turned and noted that Dodge glued the pads to the calipers like they would never need to come off. Problem went away for a little while. Then it came back with a vengeance. I replaced the pad material on the fronts with ThermoQuiet pads from Raybestos. Problem is coming back again and now I cannot tell which end of the car it is even coming from because it it so loud. My wife drives this car very carefully. My thought is she is polishing the rotors too smooth and this is our source of noise.

We are at the point of squealing again and I am at my wits end with this. If I light foot it, no noise. If I stop like I think it should be stopped, not killing it, the noise is there. If I stop very quickly about 3 to 5 times in a row the noise is gone for a little while until the pads cool and then it is back even if I am on the same journey.

Accent MC (2006-11) :: Loud High Pitch Squealing From Rear Brakes

I have a 06 accent sedan and I have been having some issues with the back brakes that were just replaced prior to the motor vehicle being done the end of June. I had the brakes replaced and everything was working fine up until the middle of last week; now the brakes in the back are squealing like the warning plates are rubbing together again (loud high pitch squealing) what could be causing this...I took it back to where I had the brakes replaced and they did a check and said that it did not look like anything was wrong and they asked me when my front brakes were replaced, I told him they were replaced last August when I have a issues with a caliper freezing up and had to replace everything in the front (brakes, caliper etc). So long story short he said to keep driving and see if you can tell if the squealing is coming from the front or the back and come back when its happening or if you can determine which one it is..

Golf IV R32 :: Squealing Of Brakes At Low Mph

Well I've had it with the low mph squealing of my brakes. I'm currently running the brembo 2bk 4 piston set up. I'm assuming it has race pads since it only squeals at low speeds. The pads are still good btw.

I do not track the car so I was thinking something in the middle pad wise. I was looking at the hawk hps street pads(they seem great with no noise) or the stoptech brake pads(pretty much the same as the hawks). They both will fit my brake setup.

Golf VI R :: Brakes Will Not Stop Squealing

My brakes will not stop squealing and it is driving me nuts. I have the stock pads / rotors with 12k miles and three track days. To try and get ride of the noise I have:

- pulled wheels and cleaned all dust from wheels and calipers
- I have the TyrolSport caliper stiffening kit and pulled and greased front bolts
- re-bed in the pads and rotors
- when I had the wheels off and working on caliper bolts the pads looked like there was plenty of material left

I know people have complained about stock setup making noise in cold weather, but that cannot be the case here. It lonely happens at low speeds. What am I missing to get rid of the noise?

Ford Super Duty (1999-2016) :: Brakes Squealing - Hot Brake Smell On Rear Side?

The pads were replaced 5000 miles ago. Today the truck is acting hard to go, brakes are squealing, and I noticed a hot brake smell. I got home, grabbed a remote thermometer gun and the front rotors are 130 degrees, the back ones are 650 and 700 degrees! Super hot. I'm going to NAPA for new calipers and pads. I hope that fixes it.

Prius (2010-12) :: Rear Brakes Not Working After 22,644 Miles?

The uneven wear occurred again, this time only giving me 22,644 miles on the rear brakes. So, I am on my third set of rear brakes at 78,000 miles.

This time the dealer contacted the district rep since this was a repeat occurrence. It turns out a week after my first rear brake job, Toyota issued T-SB-0248-12, for this very problem, on the 2010 - 2012 Prius and on the 2012 Prius PHV. There is a new brake pad that is supposed to address this problem. The old part number that was put on my car during the first brake job was 04466-76011 and the new part number is 04466-47080. The receipt also shows Brake Shim Grease part number 08887-80409, which is noted in the TSB.

Toyota did the right thing in that they covered the cost of the brake job I just had done. I just opened a case asking to be reimbursed for the first brake job since this turned out to be a problem that was addressed with a new part.

I suggest anyone with a 2010-2012 Prius or 2012 Prius PHV that needs rear brakes, make sure you insist on getting this updated pad and point out this TSB. My service adviser said they were going to replace all of their pads with the old part number with the updated pad, so other customers going forward receive this new pad, though he also said they just don't do a lot of Prius brake jobs.

Prius (Gen 3) :: Rear Brakes Gone With Severe Uneven Wear At 55,000 Miles

While in for an oil change, the tech pointed out that my rear brakes were almost metal to metal, and that one pad on each side of the car had severe uneven wear. He noted he had never seen rear brakes go this quickly in a Prius and he had never seen the uneven wear. He said part of the mechanism that allows the pad to slide in and out as the brakes are used had frozen, creating a pivot point, and creating the uneven wear. The front brakes are fine with plenty of meat left.

Parts were ordered, including new shims and other hardware to try to insure this does not happen again, and the brakes were replaced. I contacted Toyota Customer Care and basically got the old line that brakes are a wear and tear item but the issue would be sent onto engineers.

I am the sole driver of the car and use the regen brakes at every opportunity, which is most stops. Since long brake life is one of the benefits of regen brakes, this is disappointing to say the least.

Elantra MD (2010-15) :: Noise From Brakes At 26,000 Miles And Replaced Rear Disks And Pads

Brought my car for an oil change at 42000 km (26000 mi) and asked the dealership to check my brakes since I've been hearing a noise for the last 2 weeks. Ended up having to replace both rear disks and pads. Dealer said everything was seized up and that they were able to rescue my front brakes by doing brakes service on them.

Next day, the exact same thing on my girlfriend's 2012 Accent..! Dealer told me that brakes need to be serviced every single year to avoid this...! Really??? I never heard of that before and needless to say, I didn't expect to get a 500$ + bill on a new car...

I checked with my mechanic and he did inspect my brakes at 24000 km (14900 mi) as I asked him and that everything was working perfectly.

Golf V R32 :: Brakes Squeak Loudly At 41,000 Miles

My brakes (still OE) have been loud as crap lately. Car (and thus the brakes) has 41,000 miles on it.

I don't believe they are done, because i see plenty of pad, and the wear sensor hasn't come on, plus the squeak isn't constant (pads that have the metal squeal bar make noise consistently when they get to it, IME). If I brake hard they are usually quiet, it's only light pressure that is doing it now. I know about the common "noisy when cold" that our brakes do, but mine have been doing it in warmer weather as well, and it's getting really annoying now.

I'm guessing that if I just take it all apart and put brake grease behind the pads and on the slides, this should quiet things down?

My mechanic has quoted me $300 to do the rear brakes, would it be worth the extra money to convert??? I really don't care for drum brakes. I have done a search on the internet and every time it brings up the issue with the parking brake.

Camry :: Squealing When Don't Have Foot On Brakes

I am having some issues with the brakes on my Camry squealing when I don't have my foot on the brakes. Its an intermittent issue and it doesn't start making the noise until Ive been driving for 15 minutes usually and mostly does it at speeds above 45 mph. If I gently put my foot on the brake the noise stops and as soon as I take my foot off the brake it starts again.

Also, if I drive for more than 30 minutes without using the brakes the noise gradually gets quieter and then goes away. Last winter I had the passenger side rear inner brake pad get worn down to the metal. I think the caliper slides had stuck, because they were hard to push in and didn't spring back. I put some grease on them and didn't have any noise for about 9 months and just recently the noise came back.

Now, I didn't use actual caliper grease, I just used lithium grease and Ive read recently that you need to use caliper grease because over time lithium grease will dry up. I've checked all of the brake pads and none of them is down to the metal or even worn down to a point where the scratches would touch the brake rotor and cause a noise.

In fact, about a month ago I replaced the front pads and the noise was still there. Now, here's my question: do that sticking caliper pins on the rear caliper would cause this noise and that I simply need to grease the pins?
