Nissan - Sentra :: 1996 - Loud Single Clunk Coming From The Area Around Right Rear Wheel
1996 Nissan Sentra GXE, 147,000 miles. Automatic transmission. When I start moving after starting the car, I hear an ominously loud single clunk coming from the area around the right rear wheel. I start the engine, no clunk. I release the parking brake, no clunk. I put the car into gear, no clunk. I take my foot off the brake and begin to move, CLUNK! And that's the last I hear of it while I'm driving. There are no rattles, shakes, or other problems as I am driving. I can stop for a traffic light, and there's no clunk when I start moving again. Shift into reverse, and there's no clunk. Hit a pothole, nothing.
It may be worth mentioning that I have a huge hole in the right side of my muffler (seriously - I can stick a few fingers into it) which I am not going to repair. And that is because in five weeks I am going to be buying a new car. I've arranged time off from work to do all the running around from bank to dealer to insurance agent to DMV, and I'll have enough cash at the ready for a large down payment. So I am very reluctant to have any work done on this car. So what it comes down to is can I 'baby' the Sentra as much as possible and use it as little as possible over the next few weeks, or am I in danger of losing a wheel (or something) at any moment?

There is a knocking sound in the rear passenger side area. Cannot diagnose the cause, what it could be. I checked the bushings for the anti sway Bar but that was not it.
View 1 RepliesGolf V R32 :: Pretty Prominent Whirring Sound Coming From Rear Passenger Area
Noisy Fuel Pump ??? At least that's what I think it is. Pretty prominent whirring going on, sounds like it's coming from the rear passenger area. Dealer listened to it, agreed something was up. No immediate answer, will have to schedule service.
View 4 RepliesGolf VI R :: Quick Scraping Sound When Takeoff From A Stop
When my car is cold... sitting 8 hours below freezing I've noticed until the car warms up I hear almost like a quick scraping sound when I take off from a stop or when shifting. It's almost like when the engine is put under load the movement causes something to shift and makes this noise. Any chance I have a loose mount or a portion of the exhaust could be shifting coming in contact with something?
View 13 RepliesGolf VI R :: Single Bang Sound Only Happens Under High Load
I recently installed a 42 DD DP in my 2012 CW Golf R. I have noticed that under high load (mostly down shifts) that something is knocking under the car. It is a single bang sound and only happens under high load. I did the DP install myself and I have since done a quick check to see if the exhaust is loose. It is not. I have checked the Drive shaft and all the bolts are tight. I suspect it is the exhaust hitting something but I don't know what.
View 5 RepliesGolf VI R :: Single Popping Sound When Come To A Complete Stop
Did some searching but came up cold. Here's my issue and pardon my ignorance if it is something obvious. Iv got a '12 Golf R and lately when I come to a complete stop I hear 1 single popping sound right before I reach 0 mph. It doesn't happen at any other time that I have noticed. What that could be? Where I can get a replacement Battery Cover?
View 3 RepliesGolf V R32 :: Quick Swish Sound As The Gear Engages When Shifting Up
I just picked up my R32 2 days ago and I notice that when it shifts up semi-aggressive (around 4.5 rpm) there is a quick swish sound as the gear engages. It sounds like it is coming from the muffler system, in the rear. What it is?
View 12 RepliesNissan - Altima :: 2003 - Single Thunk Very Occasionally Just After Starting
Had a weird experience with my Nissan Altima (2003) in June that has repeated very occasionally since then. Immediately after starting, there is a single loud thunk. It sounds exactly like a bird flying into the rear left window. In fact, the first time I heard it I thought that's what had happened. Since it has repeated -- although very occasionally, as in a handful of times -- I'm concerned that it's a problem that needs to be addressed. The car has about 100K miles on it and is otherwise in very good condition. What the likely issue might be? (I recently moved to a new area and I don't have a trusted mechanic to ask.)
View 4 RepliesPrius (2004-09) :: 2006 - Rear Door Stuck In Double Locked Mode
I have a UK right-hand drive Prius gen 2 2006 T4 model.
My rear door on the driver's side won't unlock. it appears to be stuck in double locked mode. It cant be unlocked manually from inside the car and the lock button just springs back to lock position (as you'd expect it to do when in double lock mode).
I can lock/unlock the car other 3 doors using the fob, I can lock/unlock the cars other 3 doors using the internal button on the driver's door.
I suspect there must be a failure of the lock motor or solenoid inside the door but I cant figure out how to get the door unlocked just so i can get the trim off and check. What the cause or remedy could be?
Honda - Cr-v :: 1998 - Rattling Sound Underneath (mid / Rear End Area)
Vehicle makes a rattling sound underneath (mid/rear end area?) when hit bumps and mechanic said may be the anti-sway bar (or front struts). What is that and how important is it to fix? Vehicle has 108,000 miles.
View 2 RepliesSubaru - Forester :: Sloshing Sound Under The Car Towards Rear (cargo Area)?
Well, we let my son take our 2009 Subaru Forester across the country to college, and of course, the car seems to be having issues now. He says he is hearing a "sloshing" sound under the car towards the rear (cargo area) whenever he stops or goes over speed bumps. He insists that he has looked under seats and in crevices for loose items with liquid in them, and nothing. He also hasn't noticed (yet) any spots on the ground under the car.

View 4 RepliesToyota - Camry :: 2009 - Popping Sound In Right Rear Wheel Area?
I have an '09 Camry and for the last few months have been hearing a metal popping sound in the rear wheel area when I go over a bump or pothole unevenly or backout of a driveway at an angle to go onto the street. The sound does not occur when the wheels when they are even, only when the rear right wheel is "lower" than the left. It has not been in any accidents and there was no event that preceded this popping.
I took it to the dealership but they were unable to replicate the issue but it happens no matter who drives the car (my husband or myself) and it is likely that the service guys didn't go over any bumps/curbs/potholes unevenly to hear the sound. What this is or if this is in need of getting fixed? They check the axles and said everything was good with the car but it is still popping and driving me nuts.
Passat (B6) :: Squeaking Sound Coming From Around Passenger Rear Door / Body Area
Having issue with body squeaking ? . I am getting a squeaking sound coming from around the passenger rear door /body area of my 2010 Passat. Car has 10K miles and has been doing this since around 6K miles. Not noticeable unless going over uneven pavement or railroad tracks but it is annoying. Never had any body squeaks from a new car lite this. Have not been to the dealer with this issue yet.

Current suggestions:
• Cracked bearing race. It could be another problem entirely having to do with the suspension mounts or axle mounts but let's hope these new mechanics will figure it out.
• Problem with a wheel bearing
• Struts and suspension components
• Bushings and parts
• Loose upper strut center nut or from loose upper strut mounting nuts
I took it back to a shop but they are thinking the sound is actually coming from the body near the roofing area in the right rear portion of the car. They seem to think based on the sound (metal popping only when that wheel is lower (like coming out of a driveway angled, or going over a pothole)) that it is the metal body but it would cost and arm and a leg to get in to even find out what it was. They assured me that it wasn't impacting the safety of the body and is just a funky sound. The sound is much louder in the car than outside which I think kind of supports their theory. Are they right and it won't impact the safety?
Golf IV / Jetta IV :: Trying To Remove Double DIN Monsoon Unit But Stuck?
I tried to remove the double DIN monsoon unit using 4 OEM VW removal keys. The bottom went fine, the top they went all the way in. So after searching here and other forums, I know the tabs are bent. There were plenty of posts but not many were useful. I tried jiggling the radio around, angling the keys in trying to catch and even pulled the trim from around the radio to see if I could slide something in.
One post said he got it out by pulling apart the whole dash to get at the cage, which I don't want to do. The other said he brought it to the dealer and they could get it out but destroy it. I'd be willing to give that a shot to get this thing out, but not sure how to even go about it.
Golf IV R32 :: Getting Ticking Sound From Belt Area?
Apparently the PO could hear a faint ticking initially while the car was warming up then go away after a minute, but then it went away. Out of nowhere I heard a very prominent ticking from the belt/supercharger area that doesn't go away once the car is warm. My first thought is a bit of the belt might have started peeling off and is hitting something due to the frequency of the tick, but the belt looks ok from the top of the engine bay. Tomorrow I'm going to start taking bits off to gain access to the water pump/pulley to make sure the water pump pulley hasn't started falling apart.
Ticking from belt/supercharger area. I'm pulling stuff off tomorrow to take a closer look, What would cause this?
IS F (2008-2014) :: Metallic Click Sound Coming From Left Rear Axle Area When Shift Into Reverse
This has going on for a few months now off and on. Whenever drive my F hard I notice this metallic click when i go to shift hard into second. The metallic click seems to be coming from the front of the car. I also get it if I'm around 3600rpm in and stomp on the pedal in first or second. It also happens when I shift into reverse. What it could be??
It also happens when i floor it and let off and do not change gears mainly in first and second. Sometimes i get a double click also.
At first I thought something could have gotten trapped in the engine bay and it only accelerated to a high enough speed to cause an audible noise but seeing as it been 3 or 4 months I don't think its the problem. It does not seem to effect spend and it does not make the click all the time.
