Golf V R32 :: Cracked Windshield - How To Replace It
So first day back to work after the holiday season and I got clocked with a giant rock on the highway which put a chip in my hood and then put a nice crack in my windshield. So far it hasn't spread and it's not on the driver's side so luckily it's not impairing my vision.
And, did you have the dealer do it or a windshield repair place? I'm concerned about the rain sensor.
Prius (Gen 1) :: Windshield Cracked From The Top After Hitting The Ground
Last night I was driving on a country road and all the sudden, a deer came running out in front of me! Now they say to just go ahead and hit the deer, but naturally, I swerved and the car went one way, then when it came back the rear of the car swung around into a ditch. I was going about 50mph or so, and all I remember seeing was a lot of dirt and dust when the car was skidding sideways , I felt my body shift its weight and before I knew it, I seen the windshield cracking from the top due it hitting the ground. Then when the car was at rest, I was hanging upside down in the complete dark and the only light was the MFD and the speedometer. I sat there for about three seconds before taking off my seat belt and falling to the roof, and trying to find a window to crawl out of. Luckily, I escaped without any broken bones and no scratches at all. I am very impressed with the Gen. I Prius, it performed a lot better than what I thought and kept me out of harms way.

Oldsmobile - Regency :: Windshield Cracked Without Any Apparent Reason
In February of this year, I had a new windshield installed. Yesterday when leaving to go to work I noticed the very top part of the windshield on the driver side was cracked in a "x" shape.
I have no clue how this has happened, since I am the only driver of this car and have not had any rocks/debris hit my windshield since this was installed. I took it to the people who did the installation, and the guy looked at it and agreed this was rather odd and there was no evidence of rock or debris in the crack itself. I asked if there was a chance that it was installed incorrectly (maybe a stress crack?) or if the windshield itself may have had some sort of hairline crack prior to the installation. He said that there really is no wrong way to install a windshield and that it had to have been some sort of debris or vandalism--and the windshield was in perfect condition when installed.
I am really leaning towards the idea that this was some sort of installation error. You would think that if this was an act of vandalism, the person would have smashed the whole windshield--or at least somewhere towards the center that would force me to have it replaced. As it is now, you cannot see this crack from the inside of the car. So here are my questions:
Is there a wrong way to install a windshield that could have caused this? Or is the company just leading me on because they don't want to replace it?
If the answer to the above question is yes, should I go back and push for them to replace it?
Prius V :: Windshield Cracked With No Obvious Rock Or Other Damage?
Wifes 2012 Prius V got a cracked windshield with no obvious rock or other damage. It started on the top where the glass meets the roof and grew quickly. Looks like a stress crack, you can run a pen down the crack and there is no obvious hang up where something hit the windshield. I'll have Toyota check it out later this week, but checking for statistics if others have suspect cracks or not.
View 7 RepliesPhaeton :: Windshield Cracked At The Lower Right Corner Of The Rear View
I have the '05 V8.
The crack seems to originate at the lower right corner of the rear view mirror assembly contact point and spreads out in four opposing directions including two to the top edge of the glass. I could find zero chips on the outside of the glass at the nexus point of the crack. I also did not get hit in the windshield while driving -- not that I noticed anyway.
We went to the opera at night drove it home and noticed no damage and parked in the garage. The next day I went to the garage and noticed the crack (the cracks are about 8 inches long or so). The garage was very hot.
Is it POSSIBLE, and are there any reports of this happening, that the heat or something else caused the rearview mirror assembly to torque and crack the windshield or am I dreaming that I can blame VW and I just must have missed the crack when I drove home and it happened some other way.
Golf/GTI VI :: 2011 - Windshield Scratches - What To Do
having just picked up a new 2011 GTI 2-door. Got a fantastic deal and couldn't be happier. I was a previous MkIV R32 owner and a vortex member, but the admins haven't responded to my request to get my old userID reinstated (it's attached to a forgotten password and an outdated email address).
So while I'm thrilled with the new GTI, I'm having some growing pains. It's cold here in MD and so my clear bra install didn't go do well. Still, the paint is protected and I'll redo it in the spring.
But today I drove the car in the sunshine for the first time (took it home at night) and found two small scratches in the windshield right at driver's eye level. They are thin, but they are there (you can just barely feel them with your fingernail), about 2 inches long and about a half an inch apart - given the arc, they were probably caused by the windshield wipers.
My question is this: the car has 47 miles on it and I just got it home, so these scratches were likely there when I bought the car (it had never even been test driven). Which option would you all pick???
1. It's a brand new car, call the dealer and make them buff out the scratches or replace the windshield, or,
2. Accept that new German windshield glass is SUPER soft and it is going to get scratched anyway, and just enjoy the new GTI.
As you can see, I'm obsessing a bit, as one does with a brand new car. I was really bummed out about the clear bra install failure, and now this.
Toyota - Camry :: Back Windshield Was Totally Cracked But Still In Shape After Snowfall
I have a 2005 Camry LE 4D Sedan. Last week, we had a severe winter storm down here for around 4 days. My car was covered with ice all around for around 3 days before I cleaned up the ice with a piece of plastic scraper and the built-in heater in back windshield last Wednesday. Then I used the car for two day's daily commute and weekend shopping without seen any problem.
But this Monday morning, I found out that the back windshield was totally cracked but still in shape, fully with fine cracks all over the place. It looks just like someone used a small hammer cracked the back windshield carefully and did not break it. Then I wanted to drive to a Toyota dealership in town to have them check it out and fix it. But on the way to the dealership place, the back windshield started falling down pieces by pieces. Each piece is in size of green pea.
In one Toyota dealership, I was told that this kind of damage is not covered by Toyota warrantee. And then this was confirmed by North America Toyota Customer Service Center. I do not believe that this should be the case! It definitely caused by the bad quality of the back windshield. It should be the defect during the manufacturing of this piece of windshield. I am just out of luck and got this bad quality windshield.
Corolla / Matrix 2009-13 :: Rear Windshield Seal Cracked And Melting
I just washed my corolla today and I noticed a long black sticky piece of sealant laying on my windshield. So I looked around the edges of my rear windshield and to my surprised there were couple of cracks on the sealant. Not just cracked seal but also an inch to 3 inches of sealant are gone.
View 14 RepliesGolf/GTI VI :: 2011 - Bubbling Around The Borders Of The Windshield
This is a 2011 that is parked in the sun a bit, but not for prolonged periods, and it's definitely not parked in death valley or anything. I don't like the fact that it seems like the laminate coating is bubbling and separating. I'm still within warranty and haven't brought it into the dealer to have them look at it just yet.
That said, what would be the fix for this? Windshield replacement? The pic is somewhat older, and the bubbling appears slightly worse, and is at a higher concentration, and goes the entire length, or at least 85% or so around the edge of the windshield border where it meets the body panels. These areas are not accessible from the interior of the car, nor are they on the exterior of the car either.

View 5 RepliesSonata I45 (YF - 2011+) :: Black Line Across Windshield
I am not impressed with the headlight angle of the 2011 Sonata. There is a "black line" across my windshield where the low beams project and totally disappear. If you drive in the city, you would not notice it. In the rural areas- dark hilly and curvy roads, it definitely cuts into visibility. One can only see about 50 feet ahead. Last Friday night I hit a black tire on a black road as I did not see it in time. My 2005 Sonata did not have this problem.
View 2 RepliesAzera HG (2011-16) :: Cannot Keep Inside Of Windshield Clean
I've had my '12 Azera for about 6 weeks. One issue with the car is the inside of the windshield on the driver's side won't stay clean. I can clean it and the next day it has a film on it. The longer I leave it, the bigger the area gets. I've tried all different types of cleaners with no better results. I had a GM car that did this, was told it was from the gases escaping the plastic molding inside the car near the windshield. The Azera doesn't have that. I'm puzzled why it's doing it and how to stop it.
View 18 RepliesAvalon 2005-12 :: 2011 - Windshield Wipers Chatter
I have a brand new 2011 Avalon. It has 5000 miles on it. The car is a dream to drive. Best car I have ever owned. I love it. Except for one HUGE problem.
The windshield wipers chatter.
I told the dealer and they put on a pair of new blades. It didn't fix the problem. They still chatter.
I went to another dealer during a rainstorm because the chattering was driving me insane and without an appointment they threw on another pair of blades. I'm talking real Avalon blades. Not some third party brand. Guess what. They still chattered.
I am at a loss at what to do. When you look closely at the blades I notice that the ends near the bottom portion of the windshield don't make contact with the windshield. That can't be right.
