Prius (2004-09) :: Excessive Wind Noise On Highway And Mild Clunk When Engine Kicks On
I'm loving this 'new' 2004 prius with 177k miles on it that i just bought. In New England winters I'm still getting 40-45 mpg and I'm not even trying to get great MPG's.
1.) Wind noise : My biggest disappointment is excessive wind noise over 55 mph. I 'm using this car as a taxi and its so loud inside I'm a little embarrassed with customers in the car. It sounds to me that its coming from the passenger window or passenger side near the windshield, but I can not identify its location at all. I've always been the one driving when looking for it though.
I called a dealer that sells lots of gen II used prius's and he says its fairly common to replace the window seals? The car has a clean car fax.
2.) Mild clunk when the engine kicks on. Not all the time, but sometimes : Other thing is, I can sometimes feel and hear a mild clunk when the engine kicks on. I also feel a little bit if vibration when the engine is on and i'm idling (it was 16 degrees last night so the engine stays on for heat). The oil level is good. I'm due for change in the next 500 miles.
Is this anything I should be concerned about? I'm sure I'm just overly sensitive.
Golf/GTI VI :: Excessive Wind Noise From Top Of Passenger Door Intermittently
I have intermittent excessive wind noise from the top of my passenger door. The dealer claims they can't hear it, so I will take matters into my own hands. The driver's door was not aligned correctly when I bought the car but the dealer adjusted it correctly, so I am wondering if the passenger door could just be too far outward. Other than adjusting the door striker inward are there any other adjustments or is there a common issue that could cause the wind noise?
View 24 RepliesPassat (B7) :: Shallow / Thin Door Weather Stripping Causing Excessive Wind Noise
First off let me say I love my TDi for everything I bought it for...fuel economy, space, ride comfort.
I've noticed the wind noise before but had never taken a drive more than 30 minutes.I just took my first 300 mile road trip and REALLY noticed the EXCESSIVE wind noise.
I traded a 2010 GTI and its weather stripping was more full and produced a much better closed door seal and I never once had problems with wind noise in the 2 years that I owned.
Prius C :: Excessive Wind Noise At 60 Mph And Faster?
Experiencing excess wind noise at 60 mph and faster? You would think a vehicle that has a low drag coefficient would not have wind noise issues.
View 9 RepliesGolf VI R :: Wind Noise At Highway Speed
I travel highway daily at 70+mph and it's pretty annoying, nothing the radio won't fix but sometimes I like to have a conversation with passengers and find myself talking over it.
I have a 2DR Base, MFD 04/12.
I've tried the vinyl tubing thing and that did nothing. Had the dealer look at it when it was in for the service and they said it was "within spec", I stopped up there today and tried looking up any TSB's with the service advisor and most of the ones we found were for the GTI. My issue starts about 60-70 mph and gets worse the faster you go. The noise sounds like it's coming from the top of the window - almost like the window is cracked about 1/8".
Golf/GTI VI :: Clutch Clicking At Initial Travel / Wind Noise From Doors At Highway Speed
So far from reading up here is my list:
1) Water pump.
Its not leaking or making noise at this time.
2) Clutch clicking at initial travel.
Noticed this on the first couple miles.
3) Smelly A/C.
This is ongoing
4) Wind noise from doors at highway speed.
Noticed this also
5) Wastegate rattle
Don't hear any rattle, or I am not narrowing down the sound when it happens.
Anything else I should add?
Santa Fe (DM - 2013+) :: Wind Noise At Front Doors On Highway Speeds
I recently had my 2013 Santa Fe Sport serviced at a dealer and finally remembered to tell them about the front windows wind noise at highway speeds. It has been ongoing for quite some time. When the service rep brought my vehicle back to me he told me that Hyundai was aware of the problem, and that it was caused by the moon roof. I did not see any recent posts to the forum or on the internet regarding the window noise, except for some older ones referencing noise related to the side view mirrors and adding insulation to them.
View 3 RepliesSonata NF (2006-10) :: Wind Noise In 2 Front Windows When Driving On Highway Speeds
I have a lot of wind noise in my 2 front windows when driving highway speeds, no water leaks. I cannot find where it is coming from either, I assume it is either air rushing over the mirrors or thin glass. Sometimes it is worse than others, not sure if cross winds etc. Is that common in 2009 Sonata. My old 2003 Malibu, much quieter but mirrors were slightly more rounded if I remember.

View 14 RepliesGolf/GTI VI :: Excessive Wind Noise Coming From A Pillar Area
I'm having a real issue with wind noise coming from the A pillar area. I've been to the dealer twice and still have no resolution yet. When I went in today and showed them where the wind noise is coming from the tech. just stood there dumbfounded like he's never came across this problem before. Tried blaming it on wind noise around the mirror. I showed them how when you close the door on a dollar bill there is hardly and force needed to pull the bill out. They adjusted the door striker the first time which didn't work any. There are some major alignment issues with the door and the seal. It's so bad water leaked inside the car during a heavy rain.
View 1 RepliesGolf/GTI VI :: Excessive Wind Noise Around Mirror And A Pillar Area
I found a fix for excessive wind noise around the mirror and "A" pillar area. There is a gap between the side window and the mirror housing. This gap must be filled to alleviate the problem. An Audi forum suggested rubber tubing to fill the area. I've found a better solution in using adhesive backed wool felt insulation strips. Grainger Supply company sells the strips in 12" lengths. I used the 1/4"W x 3/8"T x 12"L. piece. You have to do some trimming to get the correct fit but it worked great. Clean the area with alcohol before applying.
View 11 RepliesPrius (2010-12) :: Excessive Wind When Driving With The Window Down
This is my first summer in my 2010 Prius. Noticed excessive wind on your face when driving with the driver side window down? I'm guessing it might have to do with the shape of the car. I can drive at freeway speeds in my 02 Civic with the window down but if I'm travelling faster than a crawl in the Prius it becomes really annoying.

I'm looking for a practical , reliable and economical car for work. I drive around 50-70 miles a day in new York city traffic. I'm going to look at a 2000 Toyota echo with 80k on it tomorrow. I need my next car to last me 5-10 years. I have done some research on these cars and I haven't really heard anything bad about them except for excessive road noise and wind vulnerability. Is the echo going to be the right car for my needs? Anything I should know going in to tomorrow?

View 14 RepliesLexus RX 2010-15 :: Wind Noise When Going At About 70+ On The Highway
I've been noticing a tremendous amount of wind noise going 70+ on the highway. My car only has 18K over a course of 4 years. The only the possible think I can think is the seals have dried because of standing in the sun for so long at school and then not getting garaged when I get home, my mom's and dad's car get priority. It used to be garaged when it was my moms. I don't think the sun can dry out the seals so quickly.

View 9 RepliesLexus LS 2007+ :: Wind Noise On Highway Coming From Sunroof
So I noticed I had some wind noise on the highway coming from my sunroof. It was actual wind coming through the dry rotted seals around the glass. Well I got really lucky and a truck kicked something up on the highway and it went right through the glass. Called the insurance company and since glass is covered free in Ma, they shipped an OEM sunroof to the local shop. Got it put in this morning, and it is all quiet again.
View 4 RepliesPassat (B6) :: Wind Buffeting / Noise And Vibration At Highway Speeds
I've been doing a lot of decently long highway trips this summer (5 hrs @ 75-80 MPH) and I've noticed that the 2008 VR6 Passat has some kind of pressure/wind noise/vibration above 75 MPH. It's hard to describe; it's like the noise you get when you open your sunroof too far and you get a harmonic noise from it. The sound seems to be coming from the upper rear of the car; behind the sunroof and almost from the rear glass.
All of the windows are up, the sunroof is closed and even the shade is closed to muffle the noise, yet it is there. However sometimes it isn't bad. If I have the radio on I don't notice it really, but when it is off it is very noticeable on certain stretches of highway. I'm having a hard time nailing it down as it is not entirely reproduceable. I don't know if it has to do with temperature, angle of the wind, climate control fan settings, what.
I did notice a few reviewers of the new CC complaining of a similar thing, which freaks me out that it is a design flaw - yet searching on here brings me up empty so I think it might be something I can fix. My first thought is that I have a tire slightly out of balance, yet the noise seems more wind related than tires.
