GTI 337/20th Anniversary :: Car Smokes At Idle After Crankshaft Fixed
I have an 03 20th AE GTI, and I just had the crankshaft fixed. My car now smokes, and I thought it would stop smoking after a few hours of letting it run, but It still smokes, at Idle. and once I step on it after Idling, it smokes alot. but after constant driving, like on highway, It doesn't smoke.
View 8 RepliesGTI 337/20th Anniversary :: Broken Vacuum Hoses Causing Misfires
so i've had my 337 for a couple months now and when i first got it i found 2 broken vacuum hoses that were causing misfires. once i got those replaced my CEL went off and seemed to be running fine other than from time to time when i started it up my idle would be around 1.2k rpms and then after a couple miles itd settle down to 750-800 rpms but it wasn't rock solid, so obviously there is still something wrong.
on my drive home tonight from work i was in the mood for some spirited driving but when i'd hit the gas i could feel some hesitation through the powerband at wide open throttle. when i got home i turned it off, and started it back up to see if it was idling funny and when it ignited the rpms jumped to almost 2k and immediately fell back down to 1.2k.
My thoughts are its either a vacuum leak again, bad/dirty maf, dirty throttle body, or a boost leak.
GTI 337/20th Anniversary :: Valve Blow Off With Vacuum - Negative Boost?
This is my other question. I have an APR program and turbo-back billy boat exhaust. I installed a boost gauge that gets the reading off of the intake manifold (fuel regulator.)
So if I'm just tooling along, short-shifting and only using 1/10 throttle, and my boost gauge never reads above -5, let alone 0 or positive, why does my valve release pressure?
Why would there be pressure to release if there is a vacuum, according to the gauge? I wouldn't think that a recirculating or blow-off valve would work in reverse.
GTI 337/20th Anniversary :: High Vacuum Levels When Changing Gears Or Going Into Neutral
I took my car to a shop today to have some engine stuff checked out. One of the mechanics noticed the vacuum levels would drop to 28-30 hg when changing gears or going into neutral. Is this normal?
View 2 RepliesGTI 337/20th Anniversary :: 2002 - Check Engine Light Came On / Failed Clutch Vacuum Vent Valve Switch
I have an 2002 Volkswagen GTi 337 edition with the 1.8t engine in it. My check engine light came on so I went to my local autozone to check the code and that's what code it threw on the ODBII sensor. It says my problem could be a "failed clutch vacuum vent valve switch". It also revs about 100-200 rpms extra in between shifts and I'm not a mechanic but know a little about cars. I just don't know if I should replace the OEM clutch safety switch or what I should do about this.
View 19 RepliesGTI 337/20th Anniversary :: Boost Leak / Only Getting About 4 - 5 Psi
I have a 20th 1.8t. It was running fine last week but all of the sudden i was only getting about 4-5 psi. I have check all over vwvortex for somewhat of an answer. I have no C.E.L.. I have checked for vacuum leaks with nothing coming up. I tried to check for boost leaks but it comes out of the dipstick hole. I have undone and re-installed the pancake pipe. The DV is holding pressure.
View 1 RepliesGTI 337/20th Anniversary :: Oil Leak - Level Always Low?
I just got a 337 a couple weeks ago and I noticed today that there is oil underneath the body of the car and around the turbo housing. The car runs fine, idles fine and seems to boost just fine and every time I check the oil level with the dipstick it reads the same every time and it doesn't leave oil behind whenever I park. I'm extremely confused and a bit worried.

So the dealership told me that my Camshaft seal was leaking a bit, which is the shaft moon one right? Well if it was leaking wouldn't I notice oil spots on the ground? I have yet to see any spots on the ground. Is there another way to check?

I've never had a leak before in my anniversary and now all of a sudden I have a coolant leak. Once I start the car and run it for a short time and shut it off I lose a few ounces of coolant. I inspected under the hood and the coolant seems to be leaking onto my tranny. I am unsure where exactly it is coming from.
View 17 RepliesGTI 337/20th Anniversary :: Exhaust Leak And Bad Gas Mileage
Some questions I have regarding he bad gas mileage my car is getting. Up until winter, my car (2005 mk4 gli) was getting 300-330 miles to the tank. I thought was reasonable, about 150 to a half tank. The setup is pretty normal, apr stage 1 tune (87,89,93,100 octane) with bolt ons (upgraded n75, DV, things like that), a cat back exhaust (unsure of brand), 90k miles was just passed last week. Timing will be done in the spring.
The car has no stutters upon acceleration and idle is staying pretty consistent about 900 rpms. I know there is an exhaust leak, at the flex pipe as I seafoamed the car this fall and discovered that. My question is, which down pipe to you suggest to be the best for the money? I've seen a bunch of different brands, weather it be 42dd, ecs, places of the such.
Would it be cheaper and more efficient to just get a turbo back or stick with the cat back and stay happy? Also, I'm assuming if the leak is in the flex pipe, that the down pipe needs replaced all together. The car DID have a check engine light, for the leak. Since winter the cel has gone away and the gas mileage dropped drastically. When I get a new down pipe or fix the exhaust leak, I also want to change the rear O2 sensor. I believe personally this maybe causing my gas mileage info.
Lastly I have a fuel filter to replace the oem one that's been in there. The same thing happened to me last winter and when summer came around, the gas mileage went up to normal 300-330. I drove to h2oi and was getting well over 30 mpg. Now I'm lucky to get 18mpg.
GTI 337/20th Anniversary :: Brake Fluid Low - Leak?
I'm having some issues with my brake fluid going low every 2-3 weeks. I get the 3 beeps on the brake light and the flashing. Sometimes it's constant and flashes 15+ times. Sometimes it comes and goes throughout the day or even the week. After I fill up my fluid, it's fine. Usually, have to fill up a pretty good amount though. Almost a whole small bottle sometimes.
Obviously I'm having a leak but I'm not sure where. I'm a noob when it comes to brakes. My brakes work fine, clutch feels fine, etc.. I read around and was told it could be the clutch slave cylinder leaking, but is this common on the O2M? I looked at the lines around the master cylinder and nothing seems to be leaking. Also, I'm not noticing any brake fluid on my shoes or in the cabin. Any tips on what to check, what's common? Are the leaks most likely going to be in the engine bay?
GTI 337/20th Anniversary :: 2003 - Small Coolant Leak?
2003 Jetta Gli seems to have a very small coolant leak. The leak is small enough that I don't even notice a puddle on the ground the light on the dash told me it was low. It is the Vr6 motor. Also I don't know if this is the right forum for my car the title says 2004.5 Gli mine's an 03. If this is a big deal just let me know and I'll delete this post and go else where.
View 4 RepliesGTI 337/20th Anniversary :: Coolant Loss - Won't Find Possible Leak?
I've had the car about 3 months now. It runs fine, never overheats, but I keep having to add coolant (every 2 weeks or so), but I can't see a leak anywhere.
I searched and found one guy that said it could be a bad expansion tank cap, and another that said it could be a tiny leak that only leaks when driving.
Anyway, when replacing my axle, I noticed this:
If that's dried coolant, where would that be from?
GTI 337/20th Anniversary :: Boost Leak - Loud Whooshing / Hissing Of Air
02 GTI 1.8T ... Stage 2
Was running the car at about 4500 rpms in 5th gear. All of a sudden lost power and heard a loud whooshing/ hissing of air which sounded like it was coming from under the front passenger side of the car. Lost about 50% of power in all gears. What I screwed up and broke?
GTI 337/20th Anniversary :: 2004 - Golden Colored Leak With No Smell
I sold the VR6 I once had and been out of the car scene for over 3 years to focus on my bike and roadracing. Well I recently ran into a good deal on a 04 Jetta GLI 1.8T with 75K and am debating making the deal final. I been driving it since yesterday and everything feels great, however, I noticed a small leak today. I touched the spot and it was a golden color and had no smell.

So i have a 2005 mkiv TR GLI. I had thought that the car leaks water at the front passenger side however it was a little drip, until last night. It rained heavily last night and I got in my car to find a good amount of water under my front passenger side mat, nowhere else. I left no windows open, and it looks to be running down between the side of the dash, and the inside of the door on the passenger side.
