Lexus GX 2004-09 :: 2008 GX470 - Intermittent Rumbling Noise As Drive Down The Road
New to my 2008 GX470. 100k miles. Love it so far. However I think I am hearing a intermittent rumbling as I drive down the road. It is like the rumble from a radio base sound. It could be normal road noise but I bet it is not.
I have replaced the left front axle (grease boot broken), replaced the rotors and pads, replaced all differential and transfer case fluids (not transmission yet) and inspected all the suspension parts.

View 14 RepliesFord F-150 (2004-2008) :: 2005 FX4 - Creaking / Scratching Noise At Low Speed
Bought a 2005 FX4 recently, 107k miles, engine and transmission working smooth and quiet. Changed oil in engine, transmission, transfer case and rear axle, filter in engine and transmission, the oil I drained still looked pretty good.
At take-off or when going slowly the truck sometimes makes a really weird creaking/scratching/rattling noise. It appears to come from underneath the truck, I only can hear it when driving close to a building or taking off besides another vehicle with windows down (noise is reflected by building or other vehicle). There is no jerk, the truck drives normal but the noise is really weird (and alarming?). Where to look?
Ford F-150 (2004-2008) :: Thumping Noise From The Rear Feels Like Driving Over Small Speed Bumps
I have a 2004 F150 4x4 5.4. Over the last few weeks I've noticed that when the truck has been parked for even a short time, when I start to move out I am getting a thumping noise from the rear, almost sounds and feels as though I am driving over small speed bumps, but once i get going it seems fine. Where to start?

I have a 2004 F-150 SCrew Lariat 4X4 with 80K miles. Over the past month or so, every once in awhile there would be a loud metallic "clacking" sound (kind of like sticking a peice of aluminum in a bike's spokes) that would start at higher speeds and would turn into a low pitched whirring gear sound as I slowed down and eventually there would be a thud followed by a sensation of running over a small bump and the noise would be gone. Kind of confusing I know, but that is the best way to describe it. My gut feeling is a wheel bearing or transmission problem....

My boss' truck has a bit of a stumble. While going down the road between 40-60 MPH it will kind of stumble. While it's an intermittent problem, it seems to happen when climbing a slight grade. I plugged a diagnostic tool into it and got no codes of any kind. He had it at a trans shop, thinking there might be some trans slippage, but the shop said the trans was fine. The vehicle in question is a 2006 F-150 Lariot 2WD with a 5.4, auto trans...
View 9 RepliesCamry :: Road Noise Noticeable Starting At 30 Mph And Gets Louder With Speed
2008 SE V6 Convertible : I have noticed that the road noise has gotten significantly worse. I don't think it's the tires as they have been well inflated and still have about 80% tread left. The noise gets very noticeable starting at 30 mph and gets louder with speed, (by the time I reach 70MPH / 2.5K RPM its already VERY LOUD) and you can even feel the "grinding" vibration in the accelerator pedal and steering wheel. It seems to from the front. A kind of cycling hum (not constant; but broken like the tip of a helicopter blades). The noise does not change in turns; and it's not a loud clunking noise.
View 10 RepliesBmw - 328i :: Speed-dependent Road Noise / Mildly Pulsating Roar
1997 328i 5sp 295k miles
Speed-dependent road noise, mildly pulsating roar as though I were driving a truck, just keeps getting louder as the weeks go by. Completely independent of load. Accelerating, decelerating, coasting, disengaging clutch, has no affect on volume or pitch of noise. Volume and pitch increases with speed. At 20 mph it is noticeable. At 80 mph it is quite annoying. Seems completely independent of road surface.
Rear wheel bearings were replaced about 50k miles ago, and they feel fine.
Front wheel bearings feel perfectly tight.
Replaced all four tires with new Michelin Defenders. That eliminated a low speed whomp-whomp--whomp that turned out to be a cord separation in the front left tire, but otherwise had negligible impact on the road noise.
Changed fluid in transmission and rear end. No change at all in the noise.
I thought that the only thing that would be speed-dependent but load independent would be the driveshaft carrier bearing. I bought a new one, but when I put the car up and exposed the driveshaft, I found that the rear U-joint was bad. Didn't figure the U-joint was my noise, as that would be sensitive to load, but needed to fix it. U-joints are not serviceable so I ordered rebuilt driveshaft which came with a new carrier bearing. Put that in today. Absolutely no change in the noise.
Tranny tail shaft bearing felt tight when I was replacing driveshaft, and no sign of oil leak from there.
All four rear CV joints feel tight, and in any event, noise from those would be load-dependent.
I have been searching the web, and rear shock mounts are often mentioned as possible suspects for road noise, but people rarely post what their problem turned out to be, and I would think that noise from failed shock mounts would be very road surface dependent.
Ford F-150 (2004-2008) :: Truck Cuts Out Going Down The Road And Sometimes Stalls
I have an 04 f150 fx4 with a 5.4 v8 and it has 125k miles on it. This morning I was driving to work and when I was going down the express way it cut out for about 2 seconds then power slowly came back after about 5 seconds, when it happens I'm either cruising or accelerating lightly. Also when it first cuts out, my headlights flicker, and when I got off the expressway and was almost to work the truck stalled completely after I stopped it started up and I was able to get to work.

View 2 RepliesSubaru - Legacy :: Whining Noise Directly Proportional To Road Speed When Drive
I have a 1999 Subaru Legacy 2.5 GT and I get a whining noise that is directly proportional to road speed when I drive. The noise is ONLY heard when the car is moving and your foot is on the gas. The second you lift your foot to coast the whining stops. If you are stopped, no whine. If you change gears, the frequency of the whine doesn't change. Turning the wheel left/right doesn't change anything. If it sounds like anything I've heard, it sounds like a dry differential. I've checked the front diff fluid level (the whine comes from the front) and the fluid level is full.

I have an 05 F150 2WD Auto, 4.2 (work truck)...I have owned it since new, no accidents , no towing...used as an "extra car." It now has about 36K on it. About a month ago, I noticed a vibration felt throughout the vehicle. You definitely feel it in your backside and the rear of the truck. I have since purchased new tires, roadforced balanced twice, and also just had the front and rear u joints replaced. (the shop said the center was rather difficult to replace and would require sending the driveshaft out to replace) Nevertheless, the front and rear were replaced. They said the center u joint "seems" fine however.
The tires and wheels are pretty much perfect. The vibration begins around 30 mph or so and is most evident to around 50 mph...both on acceleration AND deceleration.

My F150 has started whining while driving down the road or sitting still. It gets louder as the RPMs increase. I have also noticed that the transmission has started taking longer / slipping going into 2nd gear. I also smelled the transmission fluid and it has an "odd" odor to it. Could the transmission going out cause this noise?

Ford F-150 (2004-2008) :: 2006 - When Shifting While Driving Down The Road And Hit 30 MPH It Goes Into Neutral
Transmission trouble on an 2006 F150 5.4 triton ... The problem I am having is when you are driving down the road once you hit 30 mph and it goes to shift into the its like it goes into neutral. It does that rill you slow back down to a lower speed then it shifts back down the transmission picks right back up till you get up to speed again, then it like it goes into neutral again. When I turn overdrive off it won't shift out of second gear. I have changed the valve body to the transmission to no success.
View 3 RepliesCamry :: 2007 LE - Humming Noise From Rear End That Increases And Decreases With Vehicle Speed
2007 Camry LE 2.4
I just replaced the rear pads and rotors with no issues other than having to bang the cr@p out of the left rotor with a hammer to get it to come off. Now at pretty much all speeds I am hearing a rythmic humming-type sound that increases and decreases with vehicle speed. It's not a constant hum but more like one-hum-per-tire-revolution type of sound. It is coming from the left side as far as I can tell.
Thinking I had damaged the wheel bearing (and after searching the forums extensively) I replaced it with a brand new bearing from Advance Auto Parts. I re-checked the pads, rotors, all bolts, everything is lubricated properly, etc. Just took it out for a test drive and the noise is still there. Sometimes it gets louder when breaking but not always. I rotated tires and the sound did not follow the tire. The pads aren't stuck or rubbing excessively as far as I can tell.
This sort of thing has happened in the past on the left rear. It would sometimes happen when I swapped the summer tires for my winter tires on steelies, the left rear would make the humming sound, I'd take the wheel off and put it back on 180 degrees rotated and the sound would go away. I've done that a few times too and it has not worked.
Lexus ES 2007-12 :: 2009 ES350 - Rhythmic Road Noise Increases With Speed Until It Becomes Constant
I recently bought a 2009 es 350, it had 88K km on it (55k miles) and i seem to have a rhythmic road noise. it increases with speed until it becomes constant. So it's obviously the tires (getting old or need balancing) or a bearing..
Being new to these cars I'm not sure and the whole car is very quiet so any noise seems to be more noticeable.
My tires are the OEM energy's...which I've heard aren't too great. They have decent thread tho, however one sidewall looks as if it's wearing away. Could it be the tires? When do the bearings wear out on these cars - I seem to think that 90K is a bit too soon for bearings..
Ford F-150 (2004-2008) :: Front And Rear End Are Wider Than Rest Of The Vehicle
This might be a dumb question but I see trucks where they aren't lifted much and the tires look like they are out so wide. Idk how to explain it. They look like the front and rear end are wider than the rest of the vehicle aND sticks out farther. What this is or how to make my truck look like that? I assume it's some type of extensions for the front and rear end....
