Ford F-150 - 1997-2003 :: Instrument Cluster Gauge Lights Not Showing And Alternator Is Not Consistently Charging
I have a 1997 Ford Expedition, 5.4. My research indicates that fuses 2. 19. 29 are associated with the instrument cluster (IC), could you identify their specific function in relation to the IC? My IC gauge lights are not showing and my alternator is not consistently charging. The blinkers, battery, oil, brake, and ABS indicator lights are showing in start. Regarding the alternator, my research indicates that a failing alt light on the IC may cause the no charging condition? As a note, I have a brand new battery, brand new alternator, brand new 3 pin wiring harness. Also, when the alternator is not charging and I connect the a jumper from the exciter wire directly to the pos battery terminal, the charging starts.

View 2 RepliesLexus GX 2004-09 :: GX470 RPM Gauge Is Dead Most Of The Time - Noise Coming From Cluster
I have a problem with my gauges. Sometimes my RPM gauge works, and sometimes it doesn't.
When I approach the car and open the door, I hear a weird noise coming from the gauge cluster (or a nearby area). When I start the car, none of my gauges work, and you can see the temperature, speed, and fuel gauges flickering. After about 10 or 15 seconds all gauges fire up, except for the RPM gauge.
The flickering does not always occur, but my RPM gauge is dead most of the time. It works once in a while in the morning when I start the car, but once I shut down the car and start it again, I loose my RPM gauge the rest of the day.
I think the noise I hear behind the cluster or inside the steering wheel area has something to do with this problem because the cluster problem arouse when I started hearing the noise.
I managed to put the problem on video, and you may see it here. If you focus your attention on the fuel and temperature gauges right after I start the car, you will see the flickering. You will then see the needles jump to their correct readings about 15 seconds after the car starts, but as you can see the RPM gauge is dead.

I just bought a 00 f250 cc that originally came out of Canada so the speedo and mileage is all in kilometers. I have bought a use cluster that is in standard units to replace it with. I am just curious if all I have to do is replace the cluster or if there is other thing that need to be replace as well to make it work right.

View 1 RepliesFord F-150 - 1997-2003 :: Instrument Cluster / New Bulbs But Dim Around 55 MPH?
I just replaced all 5 of my instrument cluster bulbs in my 1998 f150. Everything looks nice and bright now that everything is replaced but around the top of the speedometer the light is dim. Is this normal for this instrument cluster or could there be a bad bulb or a light blockage? It's frustrating to go through effort to get to the cluster and find out after it's put back together that there's a bad bulb or something.

View 7 RepliesFord Super Duty (1999-2016) :: 2003 F250 - Fuel Sending Unit - Gauge Drop Dead Below E?
I've got a 2003 F250, SD, 5.4L Triton that I've owned since new. It has 205,000 kms on it and has run flawlessly since owning it.
Yesterday I went to use the truck after it sitting for about 2 weeks, which isn't uncommon for this time of year as I'm in the landscaping business. It never sits long, though as I make a point of using all the trucks, periodically, just to "blow the stink off" as my Dad would say.
Anyway, when I fired it up the gauge was drop-dead below "E" so I go to fill it up and it takes in fuel and it won't take a drop more. I got under the truck and knocked on the tank in various spots and the tank seems almost plum full.
When I power the truck off and back on, all the gauges come to life and settle on their appropriate readings, except for the fuel gauge. It powers up to full and then drops to below "E" as though I had turned the truck off again.
My question is, am I reasonably safe to assume my sending unit has bitten the dust? I figured that since the gauge comes to life upon startup and then drops to "E" after the rest of the gauges initialize, the fuel gauge itself probably isn't the problem?
Is there a chance that as I drive it over the next few days, and the tank empties, maybe the "sloshing" of fuel might dislodge a stuck part?
Ford F-150 - 1997-2003 :: No Activity With Cluster When Turning Key On / Truck Not Starting
I have a 2002 F150. I have an intermittent issue with truck not starting. It turns over fine but will not start. Also, when having this issue, there is also no activity with the cluster when turning the key on (other than lights lighting up); the gauges will not move as they would normally when turning key on. I have checked every fuse inside / out. I have checked the fusible link at the battery as well as any other connections I could locate around the solenoid as well as disconnecting the ECM / computer and re-plugging it back up. Typically, after letting the truck sit for a day or so, it will start back up until next time.

View 1 RepliesFord F-150 - 1997-2003 :: Changed Instrument Cluster Now Cranks But No Start
So I noticed this is a common problem in several scenarios. Some are electric failures and key failures and computer failures....And other times they happen when you switch the cluster.
I had a blacked out cluster with a couple broken gauges and after spending an hour swapping the cluster I get a crank but no start. I tried switching the 301 and 304 fuses (fuel pump and PCM) as that was mentioned somewhere online but it did nothing. Any quick fixes or do I need to tow it to a dealership?

View 11 RepliesFord F-150 - 1997-2003 :: Speedometer Is Not Completely Dead But Bounces Around
1997 F-150 XLT Extended cab. 4.6L VIN 6, 5 speed manual, 4x4. Replaced speed sensor on transfer case, speedometer is not completely dead but bounces around. Seems to be about 10 mph below actual speed. When I come to a stop say at a red light speedometer drops to zero at about 20 mph or so. Cruise also inop. It seems like whenever I let off the gas to stop or shift gears the speedometer drops down but then goes back up but not to the right speed. It has the mechanical odometer by the way. Everything else seems to be working fine. New speed sensor did not come with the plastic gear so I had to reuse the old one. Not sure if that gear was bad or not, but it was the pink one if that matters.

View 2 RepliesFord F-150 - 1997-2003 :: 2001 - No Power / Cylinder 7 Dead
2001 F150 ext cab lariat 4x4. My father passed away last christmas and my mother would like to have his truck running. A little back ground truck has a 4.6 has always lacked power. Ford did a motor job on it at ten thousand miles saying it was assembled wrong at factory. #seven cylinder has been dead for years. This spring the cat plugged up on drivers side. The local mechanic put two new aftermarket cats on it. Worked ok for a day. Then started acting up. Truck seems to only be running on three or four cylinders. It will start right up but won't rev up if you put it in gear it stalls. My uncle was s Ford mechanic for years and means well but is too busy to fix it. She has been waiting since may for him to look at it. He claims the problem is likely the wiring harness for the O2 sensors that runs behind the engine. Does this seem reasonable?

I have been reading it is the GEM module that causes these issues. My question is I ordered a new one from Ford, when it arrives I was told I can just install it and It should be pre programmed. but one ford house tells me that they have to install it and program it. Which it right? I have seen several sites on u tube where people replace the module and then start their truck right up without any issue.
