Lincoln - Steering :: 1976 - Clicking / Clunking Sound When Wheel Actually Moves The Tires
I have a significant amount of play in my steering wheel, and I notice a clicking/clunking sound in the steering wheel when the steering actually moves the tires. This makes it very hard to drive in a straight line, and that's kind of important when your car is 19 feet long . Is there anything that could be cheaply/easily fixed to remedy this?

Ford - Explorer :: 1996 - Clicking Sound Then No Forward Gears?
I have a 96 explorer (Eddie Bower Edition) with automatic trans ( not sure which one at this moment)....
Today getting on the freeway as I was getting up to speed I heard what sounded like a click then no longer had any forward gears. After rolling to a stop I tried every gear and nothing I did fell like it wanted to go but it would not move.
The trans fluid did not smell burnt and at most I might have been maybe 1/2 quart low. Where to start and what to check?
Ford - Explorer :: 2004 - Popping / Clicking Sound - Axle Replacement?
I replaced my right front axle a week ago because I was getting severe popping/clicking noises. The boot was torn on the axle and I had grease all over the inside of my rim etc...
The popping/clicking sound was gone immediately after replacing the axle. Now starting yesterday, exactly one week after I replaced it I noticed the popping/clicking sound coming back. It was faint at first but started getting louder. Now today it's almost as bad as it was before I replaced the axle. I still have to get underneath and see if I can hear where it's coming from? Think the axle is bad again? It is an after market Axle, ToughOne is the brand I believe.
Just for a quick history. All four wheel bearings were replaced about two years ago. All four ball joints about a year and a half ago. I replaced the outer tie rod ends about two weeks ago.

Ford - Explorer :: Door Ajar Goes Away / Relay Steadily Clicking When Turn On Rear Heat
2 strange things my 03-04 explorer is doing.
(1) it keeps telling me I have a door ajar. the weird part is, if I turn the interior/dash lights off, it goes away, even after I turn them off and back on. Also, after doing that to get the message to go away, when I turn on my rear defrost, the message comes back on. I've sprayed the heck out every door with WD-40 to try and loosen a stuck switch.
(2) occasionally, when I turn on the rear heat, you can hear, what sounds like a relay, steadily clicking in the rear drivers side of the cargo area.
What either of the two issues might be?
Ford - Explorer :: 2003 - Driver Side Rear Axle Popping Or Clicking On Deceleration At All Speeds
I have a 2003 Explorer EB that on deceleration of all speeds, the drivers side rear axle is popping or clicking. Could this be a CV joint? It does not happen on acceleration.

I am getting a thud sound when the rear tires run over a bump no matter big or small. I removed the tire jack and it is still there. Could the sound be coming the rear struts or maybe the sway bar bushings? It seems to have gotten worse the last several months.

Golf IV R32 :: Hearing Sound Like Rear Tires Dragging Over Gravel And Sticking
My car is not my daily and I only hear the sound after it's been sitting for a day or so, at low speeds right when I pull out of my driveway, I hear what sounds like the rear tires dragging over gravel and "sticking," the sound is more pronounced the sharper I turn. As I go a mile or so down the road and make turns, the sound goes away. I don't notice any vibrations or clinking sounds.

View 3 RepliesFord - Explorer :: 2000 - Rear Passenger Wheel Locked Up
So my Explorer has been parked for over a year following a minor front-end collision. I went to move it yesterday only to find that the rear passenger wheel was locked up. It wouldn't move fw or backwards and it felt like the brakes were locked up. I took the wheel off and it appeared that the caliper wasn't releasing properly, so I pryed the pads away from the rotor and tried again but still couldn't move the vehicle. So I jacked both rear wheels off the ground and tried. The passenger wheel remained locked while the drivers side rear wheel would spin a bit one way and then back the other way. It is possible that the brake locked up again as I had to depress the brake in order to get it in gear, but am wondering if there is something else going on. Also... Seems the truck is stuck in 4x4 even though the selector switch in in 'auto' (my 4x4 switch choices are Auto, 4-Lo and 4-Hi). Is it correct that as soon as one of the wheels is off the ground that the vehicle goes into 4x4? If so then that makes sense.
View 1 RepliesFord - F150 :: 2004 - Occasional Ticking / Clicking Sound That Comes From Right Rear Tire
My husband's 04 F150 has an occasional ticking/clicking sound that comes from the right rear tire. It occurs in both drive and reverse, while braking or while driving and will stop with braking. We cannot establish a pattern. Brakes are good, we just checked them and they do not need to be replaced. We took it in to be evaluated, of course it did not make the clicking while they had it and they did not see anything to indicate an issue.
View 3 RepliesFord - Explorer :: 2000 - Both Rear Interior Door Handles Not Functioning
Child safety switches on both doors are NOT activated, and both doors open OK when exterior handle is pulled. Jiggling the child safety switches does not resolve the problem. Removed interior handles thinking that perhaps some plastic tab had broken off, but both appear ok. Pulling on the linkage bar that connects handle to latching mechanism inside the door does not open the door. Indeed, the linkage bar won't move despite tugging.

I tried locking my drivers door with the key and unlock it...
View 6 RepliesFord - Explorer :: 2000 4.0 - Sputtering Almost Knocking Sound That Gets Worse When Put Into Gear Or AC Turned On
I have a 2000 Explorer with the 4.0 OHV. 104,000 miles. Has always ran great. The last few days it has had a sputtering almost knocking sound that gets worse when put into gear or the ac turned on. I changed the oil and checked all fluids. Looks good. Only thing I had done was fill it up this past monday after a storm. My mother in law told me afterwards that the particular station always has complaints after rain and has leaks in their tanks. I'm assuming I may have gotten water into the system. Would this cause these problems? And is it ok to drive it out or should it be flushed. I've added a can of Iso Heat and am now down to 1/4 tank. I had planned on getting a little lower on fuel and filling up with Premium. I've never had a problem like this before so not really sure the best way to track the problem or fix it. Or it may be something else all together.
View 3 RepliesToyota - Corolla :: 2000 - Clicking Sound On Restart
I drove my car to the store today without any problems. When I started it back up again, I noticed a clicking sound. At first I thought that maybe I had turned on the turn signal or the emergency blinkers, but neither was on. I turned off the car and restarted it. The clicking restarted when I turned the car back on. I tried turning off my headlights, and the clicking got louder. I turned them back on and it got quieter.
At that point I decided to just drive home. The clicking stopped and restarted several times during my trip. I checked the oil, and it's fine. What could be making the noise?
Accent LC (2000-05) :: Clicking / Knocking Sound When Decelerating
This start this morning on my way to work. When I took my foot off the gas I would hear a clicking knocking sound the sound slowed down as the car slowed down. Any time I took my foot of the gas this would happen. Was still there when I hit the break. If i had my foot just barely on the gas it would go way. Its an automatic 2000 Accent 156K miles.
View 20 RepliesAccent LC (2000-05) :: Clicking Sound Proportional To Speed
Have replaced BOTH half axles. Clicking sound present when driving - does NOT change when turning right or left. Seems slightly affected by acceleration/deceleration - makes clicking slightly louder/quieter. Clicking is DIRECTLY proportional to speed - slows down until car stops. Transmission works fine, fluid level is correct. New trans fluid and filter. What the heck could this be? Wheel bearings seem solid - jack up car and try to wiggle wheel - solid as a rock both right and left sides. WHAT ELSE COULD THIS BE???

View 4 RepliesAccent MC (2006-11) :: Clicking Sound Coming From The Right Rear Brake
Over the past few weeks, I have noticed a clicking sound coming from the right rear brake when they are moderately applied when stopping. Doesnt seem to happen under light braking. I figured something in there must have gotten loose so I got to taking the drum off to inspect and clean the insides, or see if anything was broken. Everything seemed to be in order, inside of the drum looks fine as do the shoes, Nothing is really jumping out at me as a cause to this noise. I hit the brakes with the shop vac to suck out any brake dust I could get.
Then, with the drum off, I had my fiance apply the brakes a few times, and the parking brake, just so I could see if something in there was not operating as it should. Heh. I dont think you are supposed to do that with the drum off. The shoe adjuster fell off the shoes (#2 below) So I had to get that back in place and I am pretty sure I have it in right. I go to put the drum back on, and the pads are now too far apart and it wont go back on.
So, I decide to try opening the bleeder valve on the brake cylinder to see if I can get the pads to move in at all. it drips but I cant get the pads to budge. Then I shortened up the shoe adjuster all the way so I could get the drum back on.
Now my parking brake lever, I have to pull it waaay up to even get the parking brake to engage. I figure I have to go back and crank that adjuster out some so the shoes engage sooner. Also, I probably got air in the brake line when I opened the bleeder, so I have to bleed the brakes for real.
