Gmc - Envoy :: 2002 - Shrill Whistle Starts After Car Hits About 20 Mph

I have a 2002 GMC Envoy that has developed a shrill whistle. It starts after the car hits about 20 mph, stops when braking or at a standstill, and sometimes doesn't start right away if the car is cold. My mechanic has checked things out and can't find anything. He pinpointed the sound to the front right side, but replaced the wheel bearing and that didn't fix the problem.

Ford Excursion :: Vibration That Starts At About 25 And Continues To At Least 80 MPH

I have a vibration that starts at about 25 mph and continues to at least 80 mph. The vibration itself isn't too bad - buzzing in the floorboards, seats, etc - but it's accompanied by a very annoying low frequency growl. It is only present under load, when I lift off the accelerator the vibration/noise go away entirely.

I rotated the tires, I also changed out the rear diff fluid and saw nothing out of the ordinary there. This pretty much leaves u-joints unless someone has other thoughts. The rear u-joints were last changed 53K miles back.

Ford Excursion :: Starts But Won't Stay Running When Cold

When its cold outside it starts and runs good for about a second and then shuts off or runs really rough and then takes off. I tried turning it off and starting it about 4 times. After the fourth time I gave it a little gas and it started after that. If the block heater is plugged in it starts fine. And starts great the rest of the day after the initial start. It is not that cold here, lower 20's in the morning. Where to start with this problem?

Ford Excursion :: 2000 F350 - Vibration That Starts Around 60 MPH

I currently own a 2000 F350 Lariat 7.3 4x4 and a 2001 Excursion Limited V10 4x4. The Excursion has a vibration that starts around 60 mph. What I've done so far...Replaced all 4 brakes (rotors and pads)..

Replaced wheels and tires (I bought new ones for my f350 and put the ones that came off the f350 on the excursion, so I know they were balanced and smooth)
Replaced the front axle (I put a dana 60 on my f350, so I put the front axle that came off the f350 on the excursion... again, I knew it was in good shape with good ball joints, tie rods, etc.)
Had the front end aligned
Finally, today, I replaced the ujoint on the rear driveshaft at the pinion (I discovered the old one was broken).

Through all these changes, the vibration has changed by degree but never gone away completely. Today, I had a bit of a revelation, and would like any input.

It has come to my attention that some excursions were given a double cardan rear driveshaft, mine included, and some had what I would call a standard driveshaft (one ujoint on each end). From what I know, with a standard driveshaft, the pinion should be angled parallel to the transfer case output shaft. However, on a double cardan driveshaft, the pinion should be angled "in-line" with the driveshaft. I measured mine with a digital level and the pinion is angled parallel to the transfer case output shaft.

My only two possible conclusions are 1) all the rear axles that went into the excursions were set up the same way, so the excursions that got a double cardan rear driveshaft are "wrong" or 2) at some point in my truck's history the driveshaft was changed but the pinion was never corrected. Need info on how the pinion is angled?

So finally, my question is, can re-angling the pinion with wedges or by cutting and re-welding the perches to get rid of vibration? Am I on the right track?

Ford Excursion :: 2000 - Jump Starts - Alternator / Battery?

My X keeps needing to be jumped and after being jumped it runs like a top as usual. Took it to Autozone and had them hookup their little portable doohikie and told me the battery is fine but the alternator should be pushing out 14a and it's only pushing 13? Didn't realize 1aI made that big of difference but whatever. I am taking the alternator off in a few minutes and I'm gonna have it bench tested to confirm the output.

Is there a heavier duty alt that I can get? I will be pulling an RV before too long so I'd like to get one that's gonna last. Btw, 2000 excursion limited v10 gas 6.8...

Ford Excursion :: 2000 - Truck Starts To Shudder With The Cruise Control On?

I just recently bought a 2000 excursion 7.3 diesel. I'm new to diesel but learning. So far I've installed a new drop in filter in my airbox. Cut out the plastic behind the grill for cold ram air into the intake. I've done the FPR mod and cleaned out the exhaust back pressure tube. And last but not least I installed an Edge Evolution 2 programmer running stage 3 with timing advanced 2 degrees. Nothing else to the custom settings other than what stage 3 provided. Here is my problem. On the freeway at 65-75mph cruising with the cruise control on, the truck starts to shudder. I suspect my TC lockup is going out but not sure. So I wanted to test it buy installing a manual lockup switch. So I installed the switch running a wire from the plug going into the transmission on the purple with yellow wire using a saddle tap to a switch to part of the dash frame under the dash. Went to test out the switch and nothing happened.

As y'all and other forum's have described I should feel something and the od light should start flashing. I get nothing. Tried testing the switch and my ground source and everything tests out fine. Tested the saddle tap. Its fine. Tested with the switch on and using a meter to check ohms at the tap to the frame of the truck I'm getting 8ohms. I would think there shouldn't be any resistance because its a dead short but that's what I'm getting. Am I connected to the right spot on the transmission or should I move the tap to the plug under the brake master cylinder. Could my TC lockup solenoid be going out and that's what's causing the shudder and why the manual switch doesn't work.

Ford Excursion :: 2002 - Front End Starts Bouncing Hard While Applying Heavy Pedal?

Got stuck in the sand pits today. While trying to get out by going forward and back. I always get the front end starts bouncing hard. I always let off. Is this wheel hop or axle wrap?

Whatever it's called. How do I minimize this. It's a shame to have all that power and not be able to lay it down.

Ford - Taurus :: Overheating - Whistle / Pop Around The Overflow Cap

I have a 1998 Ford Taurus SE 6cyl 24 valve Duratec with about 135k miles on it. It has started to overheat. It has a closed system with the thermostat on the bottom passenger side. It isn't leaking coolant but it does boil when it heats up and you can hear it whistle/pop around the overflow cap. I have drained the whole system using the petcock valve and have changed out the thermostat (which because of its location requires all the fluid to be changed or you get green rain). So, new thermostat, new coolant, still overheats. The defroster air is blowing cold. It has a belt driven water pump but I haven't touched this. Both electric fans are working.

I don't see anything in the oil. It is still a nice dark color, not milky or anything. I saw no oil in the coolant I drained. When it first starts, there is a few seconds of puffs of white/gray smoke but it is very light and goes away quickly. There is no water running out the tailpipes.

My question is, what is your guess on the cause? I'm at the point with the car, with its age and miles that I'm not willing to dump a lot of extra $$ into it -- so there will be no head gasket change -- but don't want to junk it if its something simple. I do most of my own work on my cars. How can I diagnose it further? Should I just change the water pump and if that doesn't work then what?

Ford 6.0L Power Stroke Diesel :: Odd Whistle Sound When Going At 70 Mph

New to the 6 liter powerstroke recently upgraded from my 7.3. Recently this odd whistle sound started and I can't quite seem to fogure out the cause. At first it only happened if I was going 70 mph and now it will do it anytime it builds more than 15lbs of boost. I tried tightening some clamps and stuff but that did nothing.

Ford - F150 :: 2005 - Whistle / Howl Sound At Certain Speeds

I have 140,000 miles on my 2005 F-150 and for the past year I have noticed a somewhat high-pitch whistle or howling sound coming from either the front or underneath. The pitch and volume continuously varies as though it is just tire howl, but I just changed all four tires and no results. It gets much louder at about 65 mph and 78 mph, but I don't hardly hear it at any other speed. My brother says it's just a wind whistle, but I strongly disagree as it doesn't change when i drive against or with a strong wind. I rely on this pickup for work and can't afford to be without it for more than a day or two, so, for peace of mind at least, I would like to know what is making the sound.

Ford 6.0L Power Stroke Diesel :: Whistle Under Heavy Load

I posted earlier about a whistle that appeared when I was towing my old travel trailer (6000 pounds). It only happened a couple of times, and I had a hard time replicating it, so I elected not to waste any money with the deductable, and possible additional costs for a non-covered issue at the stealership.

Now, I am towing a larger 5th wheel trailer (11000 pounds), and am experiencing this whistle on every steep grade, while towing. Below are a couple of things I noticed, that had to be, before I would get the whistle:

* It only seems to happen while the cooling fan is engaged, and also only when the rpms reached 2800 and above.

*If the fan was on, but the rpms were turning below 2800 rpms, then it would not whistle. It would, however, after the transmission downshifts, bringing the rpms back up, while climbing.

*If the engine was spinning at 2800 rpms, and the engine fan was not engaged, then it would not whistle, until the fan would kick in.

* It only seems to occur when I am climbing a steep grade, on a warm day. Although, I haven't experimented on steep grades on a cold day...

It sounds to me like there is an issue with the engine fan system, but I thought I would put it out there, just in case any of the diesel guru's out there might know of something else that would cause a whistle like this, i.e., turbo?

Oh by the way, I also think that I have a performance reduction lately. However, I can't know for sure, as I have never towed this much weight with my truck before. I just kind of expected that I would be able to pull to the top of these grades, with a little extra peddle to spare. I have to floor it, just to "try" and keep up with traffic. And I haven't calculated my fuel mileage while towing this beast yet, but WOW, that fuel gauge needle sure does drop like a rock!

Ford F-150 (2004-2008) :: Cold Temperature Whistle While Driving

Yup, my truck randomly whistles while driving in cold temperatures. Its not life threatening or damaging to the truck, its been doing it for a few months not that its been getting below freezing. Its just REALLY annoying. I can even hear it over my radio at times, so its pretty dang loud outside of the truck. The noise originates from somewhere under the hood in the engine compartment.

Won't do it at lower speeds, usually on the freeway. Motors at about 2k rpm and im going roughly 65-70. Change the rpm when it whistles and it goes away. happens randomly from 50mph to 70mph engine speed from 1.8k to 2.5k rpm. I've tried to find it but can't find a darn thing since it won't make the noise while sitting in my driveway. What it might be?

Ford Super Duty (1999-2016) :: Whistle Coming From Under The Hood

2015 with a 6.2 and 1200 miles. I have a whistle coming from under the hood. I didn't here it at first with the windows up and AC on but now that its cooler I have the windows open. I only here it at 2000 RPM or under while accelerating. Doesn't seem to matter how hard I am on the pedal or how heavy the load.

Dealer is going to have to fix it but would like to get a heads up for what it could be.

Ford Ranger / B-Series :: 1997 - Whistle Noise When First Accelerate And Slow Down

I have a 97 ranger 4 cyl that's been making a whistle noise the last few weeks. The sound is literally like a whistle and the noise level varies but its never obnoxious or loud. The sound does not happen when truck is idle, seems to happen mostly when I first accelerate and slow down although sometimes it does happen when I am going 20-30. it doesn't happen all the time but lately its happening more. What this could be? The truck idles and runs great.
