Ford Excursion :: Electrical Smell Coming From Vents
I have an electrical odor coming from my vents. I always smell it when I start the vehicle. Other then that its not continuous just intermittent. I did have the passengers side front running board light short out and have since cut it off until its warmer to replace it. I wrapped it in electrical tape and stuck it back in the running board. I did have the odor when the fuse was burn out for the running board light. I replaced the pressure switch for the cruse control last year. I was thinking the blower might be going bad. What it may be?

Today im driving along in my 2000 X v-10 limited and had the AC blowing on high. All of a sudden it started to blow out the defroster vents, then back to the correct dash vents, then back and forth intermittently.....No vacuum leaks that I could find.. Is that controls what vent doors open to control air flow?
View 14 RepliesFord F-150 - 1997-2003 :: Propane Smell In Cab From Vents?
Bought this truck earlier this year, and started to notice from time to time a smell in the cab that can only be described as propane. Truck was sound and the windows were down most of the time so I let it go. Probably not smart. With the windows up more often now, what this could be. It comes and goes. My guess is it's somehow coming through the vents, but what the heck is it? Is there anything in a truck that has mercaptan in it?

I'm guessing my heater core is bad as I smell coolant thru the vents. I think the blend door is broke too. I'm guessing the heater core and blend door are in the same area?

My 2012 f150 AC is blowing out of the defrost for a couple of minutes on start up. The AC will begin to blow out of the dash vents then will switch back to the defrost vents before blowing out of the dash vents for the remainder of the trip.

2008 Explorer XLT 4.0 ... There is a nasty smell coming from my vents (seems like a chemically smell to me). It's not an anti-freeze smell. I can smell it all of the time even if the fan is not running, but it is so much worse when I turn the heat on. What the smell could be, It doesn't smell like a dead animal to me either. What I can do about it? It's getting cold out and I can turn my heat on without gagging..
View 3 RepliesFord F-150 (2004-2008) :: Fuel Like Smell In The Cabin With Vents On
I've noticed a strange problem that makes it next to impossible for me to use his truck unless the vents are off or I have both windows all the way down with it on. It smells like it has a fuel leak of some sort and in the cab of the truck it smells bad while driving and gets worse when sitting still, to me it smells like gas and when I open the hood on his truck after idling about 5 minutes or so I can smell it in there so i know its somewhere under the hood but for the life of me I can't see anywhere where its leaking or anything like that but I can smell it all darn day. His truck is an 05 F-150 with a 5.4 and I'd like to figure this out before it becomes a real big problem. I've worked with fuel injected cars and trucks before but I have little knowledge of the mod engines at all. And he is still driving it like that and I just wanna make sure it either is not gas or is just something simple I'm overlooking.
View 12 RepliesFord Ranger / B-Series :: 2008 - Foul Smell From Floor Vents?
in my 2008 ford Ranger Sport with a V6. The smell reminds me of one winter when I had stepped in dog and didn't know it until I was four miles down the road and the heater was on full blast. The smell floods the cabin when the heater is first turned on and warms up, but dissipates after a while. (And I don't have dog on the floor boards or on my boots.)
The smell does not come out the AC vents or when the AC was operated this past summer.
Ford Super Duty (1999-2016) :: 2005 - Chemical Smell In The Cab Not From Vents?
2005 F350 Lariat crew cab a few weeks back.
My question.... I noticed a strong ammonia/super glue like smell floating around in the cab about the 3rd time i drove the pickup. Since then, it seems to do it intermittently. My first assumption was it was coming through the vents. I have done a couple experiments, and I don't believe this is the case. My wife and I were driving yesterday and she thought she noticed the smell again. while I was driving she started checking all the vents, and nothing. But when she leaned clear down near the speaker hole in the door, she said she could really smell it.
What could be causing this? I'm assuming if it was the AC it would be coming though the vents. And at this time, I don't think it is.

When starting up my 2011 F-250 Gas, I have a burning smell coming from my vents for about a minute then it goes away. It smells like new electronics. My A/C seems extra cold as well. We just got back from a 3800 mile vacation. Its been going on now for about 3 weeks and never changes...

I have a couple of concerns:
1. On my temp control when I select the floor for the air it never comes out of the floor vents. Just curious before I tear into it.
2. When I run my AC it seems to alternate from defrost vents to head panel vents. Just wondering if that is part of its function or is there something wrong.
Ford Super Duty (1999-2016) :: 2000 - A/C Vents Smell Moldy - Location Of Drain Tube?
My a/c vents smells musty/moldy when A/C is turned on, searched the FTE site and everyone says to check the A/C drain tube to make sure it is not clogged, I have searched all over top and bottom with a flashlight for the drain tube and swear there isn't one. I think it should be on the bottom of the condenser box but just do not see it. Where it is located? The vent smell is Awful!

Ford Excursion :: Air Blowing Hot Out Of Vents When Cool Outside
As the season has started to warm, I noticed when I have my air temp set to 60 and only using the vent and have not selected AC I have hot air coming out of my vents. After doing some research it appears that I may have a bad Air blend actuator, bad air door or something else. I took my truck to the dealer to get my fuel filter changed and asked if they could diagnose the hot air issue. Not being a mechanic I told the service mechanic the problem and he says the AC compressor always kicks in on fords even if the AC is not selected and maybe I have a leak and he seemed to think it more than likely was not the air blend actuator or blend door.
I told him I had no idea that the AC compressor always kicks in even with it not selected. I knew it kicked in for AC and for defrots but didn't think it did for anything else. He said since the 90's all fords did. Well I get a call that after diagnosing the system, they believe the freon is low. I just have my doubts and wonder now if I should've just tried to take the air door actuator off and test along with sticking something in the air blend door whole and verifying it was moving.
I was hoping someone that knows more than me can verify if the AC compressor kicks in even when it is not selected when I have the temp selector set to low 60 degrees. Does it make sense that I would have hot air blowing out of the vents with the temp set on low even when it is cool outside. All of my temp controls work moving from defrost, vent to heat as I can feel blowing out of the different zones.

View 10 RepliesPassat (B5) :: Gas Leak Smell Comes Through Vents When The Air Is On
It seems my car likes leak gas smell, its not leaking gas but the smell is strong and comes through my vents when the air is on, and also is in the car after high speeds (like getting off highway and stop at stop sign) also will work its way into my car when not running..
I noticed when i bought the car that the previous owner had replaced things under the hood and took off ALL the covers under the hood (the plastic covers under the hood, for example the v6 30 valve piece and the one running horizontal for the air cleaner across over top the battery), so my air cleaner is exposed at the top, so could this have any effect on the smell?

View 4 RepliesFord Excursion :: 2002 - A/C Blowing Air From Vents To Defrost?
My 02 V-10 Ex seems to be blowing Air from the front vents up to the Defrost unless it go through a series of events-- Hit Auto then forward Air then the fan has to be a 4 only. It will blow forward vents then go back and forth from theirr to the defrost. Also the Temp seems to be much hotter then it should.
Took a interstate trip this weekend though and it seems to blow much colder and do a little bit better staying in the front vents however still goes back and forth. Im in FL and its HOT!!!! The only thing I know is that its a vacuum system.. and that again its HOT in the truck as a daily driver.
