Ford Excursion :: Grinding Sound While Driving Along At A Moderate Speed In 2WD
I can't isolate whether this is in the transfer case or the front axle.
While driving along at a moderate speed in 2WD the truck GRADUALLY began making a grinding sound, similar to riding on grooved pavement or over a steel bridge. It stops IMMEDIATELY when switched to 4WD.
I can ride for 10 miles before the growling begins. When switched back to 2WD the noise returns gradually usually after a minute or so.
The frequency of the sound is faster than the rotation of a driveshaft and it continues right down to a very low speed at just about the same intensity.
I've read a few posts on here that suggest spindle bearings, but the problem came on very abruptly and usually bearing problems, from my experience start small and get worse. Last week I changed brake pads and rotors.
Lexus LS 2007+ :: LS460 AWD Jerking On Low Speed When Driving Without Any Acceleration
My new LS460 AWD 2008 is jerking on 60-80KPH(37-50)MPH, when you driving without any acceleration.
I have only 900km on odometer. And it's started jerking from 0. I gave my to Lexus for a test. They tested it over 7 days, and now they are saying nothing is wrong with it. And it's normal for AWD version.( WHAT???? )
They have one more new AWD 2008 and it has the same jerking issue.
Prius (2004-09) :: Lost All Acceleration While Driving At Highway Speed
Lost all acceleration yesterday while driving at highway speed. Tire pressure light came on also large warning sigh and check engine . Had been stuck in bumper to bumper traffic before this with AC on.Gas pedal to the floor but no acceleration. I pulled over and shut off car. When I tried to restart the lights mentioned above went out Except the check engine, NOW all the brake warning lights are on in a yellow color including the emergency brake.Brakes do stop the car (had to push it onto the tow truck) Car comes on but does not display the READY sign.
View 7 RepliesFord 6.0L Power Stroke Diesel :: Clack At Low Speed Acceleration?
What makes a 6.0 or 7.3 "clack"? I am not experienced enough with internals of a diesel to understand it.
Reason I ask, is my 6.0 is clackier than ANY other 6.0 or 7.3 that I have encountered. I mean it really cackles. Injector timing?
the engine was "bulletproofed" and (as the seller stated to me) was "flashed with a custom designed tune made by a Powerstroke specialist"... to which I have no further information on. This I assume was done for longevity and not performance.
Its quiet on the highway, but in town and stop-starts or low-speed acceleration it is crazy crackly.
Ford F-150 (2009-2014) :: Unintended Acceleration During Slow Down From High Speed
I took my 2011 Lariat in for first service and reported that it sometimes tries to accelerate on its own during slowdown from high speed, eg when coming off a freeway ramp, rpms go up and vehicle wants to speed up rather than slow down. (sounds like something a Toyota would do!)
Dealer says its a known problem with 5.0L and performed a supposed fix per "TSB 11-8-9, 5.0L ENGINE BRAKING PERFORMANCE DURING LOW SPEED COAST DOWN," essentially a PCM reflash.
Happened once in a parking lot...thought the floormat was stuck on the accelerator but the pedal was clear.
Ford Excursion :: Constant Noise Under Acceleration
Unlike Ap24, who has a post/thread about his CONSTANT noise under acceleration, mine is only happening once. For instance say I'm sitting at a stop light, and start accelerating, it's almost like the body shifts backwards. When I come to a stop and jab the brakes a little, its like it shifts forward. My dad seems to think it is the U joint.. but i'm not convinced as it does it on deceleration.
View 11 RepliesFord Excursion :: Odd Noise On Slow Acceleration / Deceleration
Ok - I admit, I don't have a good description of what's going on, but it's not normal. When I accelerate slowly, or go up a hill, I'm hearing a "rattling" sort of noise that did not used to be there. I have heard it also when slowly decelerating.
I need to crawl under and look, but my big concern is I'm about to go on a 2000 mile trip with a small horse trailer. Could this be a festering major engine, transmission, or otherwise problem?
Ford Excursion :: 2001 V10 - Thumping Noise Under Acceleration
2001 v10 ... I have a thumping noise under acceleration... also hear it if brake torquing.. I do not hear the sound if in park or neutral...while riding down road the sound goes away when you let of the gas. Torque converter has been replaced.... exhaust manifold bolts are ok too. Been to 3 places and no one can seem to pin point it or no where to begin...
View 7 RepliesFord Excursion :: Air Flow Diverts To The Defrosters Upon Acceleration
I have been having recent A/C problems with the climate control in the EX. Upon acceleration the air flow diverts to the defrosters and then when you reach the top of the hill for example the A/C goes back to the vents. I think its possibly a vacuum problem so I looked under the dash and found a ribbed white plastic hose that looked like it came detached. The end of it has a back elbow piece on it with a rectangular tab that looks like it slides or snaps into a slot to secure it. Just wondering if this could be part of the issue or just info on where to reconnect it..

Ford Excursion :: Noise On Acceleration Sounds Like A Miss
Noise on acceleration, sounds like a miss but engine feels good and no check engine light, eventually goes away, not there under a load either, idk totally stumped.
View 10 RepliesFord Super Duty (1999-2016) :: 2004 - Low Speed Vibration 15 - 20 Mph On Acceleration / Deceleration?
2004 F350 single rear wheel with 8" suspension (springs) lift and 37" tires all put on in 2005. Having low speed vibration 15-20 mph on accel and decel. Recently put on thick aluminum rear dif cover and vibration seems to have come since that install. Used Mobile synthetic fluid and 4 oz of Motorcraft antifriction additive and 4 oz of off brand. The Mobile fluid and antifriction have been in my barn for over 5 years in the winter and summer. I just changed the carrier bearing and all U-joints look good. Any chance the fluid and antifriction additive could be causing this? Truck has 66k miles.
View 6 RepliesFord Excursion :: Belt Chirping Sound For A Second With Hard Acceleration
So, my "new to me" 04 Excursion makes a belt chirping sound for a second with hard acceleration, usually 2nd gear, not always, but should I be concerned, I can't tell if it's the transmission, it does NOT appear to be slipping. I googled the scenario and people are mentioning a tensioner or belt that should be replaced.
View 10 RepliesFord Excursion :: Hesitation On Acceleration And Rough / Sporadic Idle
V-10 getting a weird hesitation on acceleration and rough, sporadic idle. Fuel filter is brand new, spark plugs only have 8000 miles on them. If im just cruising and give it just a little gas it gets real rough and wont smooth out unless I give it more gas. What else could it be? Coil packs?

Ok have and 2001 excursion v10 auto the make good heat but when you start to like climb a hill it alternates between the floor and defrost then when you knoll the hill it goes back to the vent heat. I guessing a vacuum problem.
View 6 RepliesFord Excursion :: Use Speed Control While Towing?
We just got back from our first big trip with the EX since we have owned it. We towed our (new to us) 25' TT up to northern Michigan (Elk Rapids area). This was my first time pulling a camper this far. We have been on smaller weekend trips with it.
My question is regarding the speed control. I tried using it but when it was going up a slight incline it would not kick back down. I would have to turn off the speed control in order for the RPM's to drop back. Do you guys use your speed control while towing? What about over-drive? Should I have it on or off?
By the way, we had a great time and so glad we have the EX!!! Kids had plenty of room. Got about 8 MPG! That's how we roll!
Ford Excursion :: Thud From Going Over A Speed Bump
Just experienced the teeth jarring "thud" from going over a speed bump. That was bad. I want to fix the issue right now for cheap. I plan on doing the full blown V/B mod swap out later, but don't want to buy new rubber when my current is nearly new. Dealership wanted ALOT of money for replacement leafs. This is just a temporary temporary measure to stop the slamming.
Front
Option 1: 2" Lift Shackles
Option 2: 3" Mini-Pack Leveling Kit
Rear
Option 1: OEM F-350 4" blocks
Option 2: Generic 4-5 Lift blocks
I really like the shackles for their price. Flip side though, I feel the mini-pack would firm up the ride a tad. My old F-250 rode like a truck, and the X just doesn't.
Are the factory front shocks long enough to support 2" of extension without breaking? I really didn't want to mess with the rear suspension, but she sits pretty level right now and I'm not a fan of the Bulldog look.
Ford Super Duty (1999-2016) :: 2000 F250 - Vibration Under Acceleration And When Maintaining Speed
Now that I use my truck as a daily driver I am noticing a vibration under acceleration at 30-35 and constant vibration at 45-50 accelerating or maintaining speed. I have replaced all three u-joints as well as new ribbed highway tires all around and still have the vibration. It seems worse in OD. I have done a little research and am either going to shim center support/machine a new one or have a one piece shaft made and need info on how to successfully gotten rid of this vibe on their truck mainly the amount of shimming required and the final driveline angle. It seems that most posts regarding this issue lean towards the fact that the 45-50mph vibe is normal for my year super duty and that's probably right but I want to remedy problem not "live with it!" (10 mile 45mph stretch to work @ 4AM, vibe bugs the heck out of me!)
Truck is 2000 f250 SC 2wd 4r100 3.73 gear currently 51000 miles.
Ford Excursion :: Squealing When Turn The Wheel / Slight Tapping On Acceleration
Ok, so I just drove from Pgh, PA to San Antonio, TX..... truck ran great, and before i left i replaced the steering box, tie rod ends, shocks, added dual steering stabilizers, and did a tranny flush as well as oil change.
Here are the issues that I cant figure out, anytime i turn the wheel, there is a squealing, it is NOT the power steering, when we did all the upgrades we re-greased the ball joints and temporarily stopped the squealing. So should I just replace the ball joints, and if so, should I replace anything else while I'm doing that?
The next issue is when i drive, sometimes when I accelerate slightly it sounds like something is going wrong with the engine, like a vibration or humming, maybe a slight tapping, i cant seem to figure it out. no engine lights come on or anything, but it scares me and I need this vehicle for a while so I need to make sure i keep up on the maintenance.
Ford Excursion :: 2000 V10 Shaking On Acceleration / Cylinder Misfire Or Dead
Well, I have been through the tech folder and all over the forum reading but cant seem to come up with a good first step. When i accelerate the truck shakes, by the sound it seems that its missing a cylinder. I guess it could also be the motor mounts. Besides replacing the plugs and coils, is there something else that could remedy a misfires or dead cylinder?
