Ford - Thunderbird :: Turning Off Automatic Headlights Function
I have a 1988 Ford Thunderbird LX which seems to have automatic headlights. The second the the engine starts, lights go one, and the second the door opens after the engine turns off, lights go out, no matter where the setting on the headlight switch is.
Me being old school enough and use a switch (especially having vintage autos which keep headlights on and will not alert that they are on), I would rather have the switch function as normal, without an automatic function at all.
Is this even doable with this car, and something that is easily changeable (like a relay or something), or is it borderline with we wiring the car.
Ford Wiring/Electrical :: 1995 F150 - Headlights Not Turning On
Here's the breakdown. I have a '95 Ford F150 that I bought the previous year and it has been nothing but a problem. The most recent problem is the attempt to turn on the headlights. I will pull the plunger to turn on the headlights but I will only get the parking lights and when attempting to turn on the high beams I still get nothing. The only way that I get any sort of lighting is if I pull on the turning stick (almost like doing a manual override on a tripped wall plugin). Now here's the kicker. I still have parking lights, brake, tail, cab, and dash lights. Winter in quickly approaching and the nights are already getting dark, pretty soon the days will be just as dark.

I found that both my headlights was out. I went and replaced one of the lamps and found that it still did not work. I started troubleshooting and it led me to the headlight relay. Where to find it?
*When I turn Headlight switch on = No Headlights
*When I turn the switch to auto = No Headlights
*When I turn the switch to headlights and hit the function switch to turn on brights = No Brights either
*If I pull back on the function switch to momentary = Brights come on until I release the function switch
I have 13v on Red/Yellow wire when I switch to headlights, but I do not have any voltage at the Headlamp wires.

Ford Excursion :: 2005 V10 - Headlights Cut In And Out Randomly
I have a 2005 Excursion, V10, 6.8 2WD w/ 177k. About 3 months ago, I started the engine and both headlights (low beams) did not turn on (it was dark out/automatic lights) The running lights were all running. Turned the switch on/off and no luck, however the brights (high beams and flash to pass) work while this is going on. About 30 seconds later, the low beams turn back on by themselves. Fast forward 3 months, the low beams will turn off for anywhere from 1 second to 30 seconds and turn back on. This happens while sitting in driveway, driving, sitting at a light etc. No changes other then an oil change. Happens when switch set to automatic and "on" as well. Brights always work, running lights etc, just the low beams turn on and off.

I have a 2003 Ford Excursion Eddie Bauer 6.0L that I bought and noticed the headlights are not working.
The brights come on when I pull back on the signal lever. However when I push the lever forward the headlights do not stay on. In order to get home last night I wedged a dime in the lever space to keep the brights on so I had light while driving.
Brights work with lever pulled back. Headlamps do not work on auto, or manually turning on. FOG lights do work correctly.
Reverse, Turn signals, Hazards, Break lights, and amber front signals all work as they should. The low beams do not work at all.
Ford Excursion :: Headlights And Turn Signals Replacement
I'm looking to replace the headlights and turn signals on my 2002 Excursion - I've seen loads on Ebay, but don't really know how to tell what ones are ok? I like the chrome style, and like the led lights too - but mainly I just want the front of the truck to look more modern (I am buying the 05 style grill too)...

View 14 RepliesFord Excursion :: Keeps Blowing Fuse 45 - Headlights Off - Engine Sputter And Die?
My Excursion keeps blowing fuse #45, a/k/a "Ignition switch Run/ Start feed"
Going to have to go in shop. Seems to be a short in the steering column.
Then the dash lights go dim, headlights die, engine sputters and dies. I am guessing alternator most likely.
These two things might be related? Maybe there's not a short in the steering column, I dunno.
Ford Excursion :: Starter Engages When Headlights Are Turned On And Reverse?
Had the Ex (2000 Limited V10 134K) about a month now, doing some reading in the FTE, saw the thread about wire chaffing in the steering column related to the gear shift selector and overdrive. Well, everything else has been chaffed on this truck so far I figured I better look at that too. They are chaffed right at the bottom of the base of the selector, not much wire to work with, might just replace.
I put everything back together and no issues. The next morning, I drove it and no issues until at work, put it in reverse (to park next to the bosses pretty new red Titan, picked that up from You Might Drive and Ex If) and the starter engaged. Got it parked, starter playing with switches for it to repeat, found that with the keys in my hand and turning on the headlight switch on (park or headlight position) the engine would start turning over, turn the key on and the headlights on and the EX starts, started stayed engaged until headlights are turned back off. Reverse only engaged the starter when the engine was running, when not running neutral safety switch kicked in telling me it works.
Searches had me reading in other in another place that there are wires that go from the headlight switch to the steering column specifically heavier guage blue wire with red or pink stripe "I think".
So last night I took the column covers back off and started chasing wires. As I was moving wires looking for the short I kept turning the light switch on and off as I wanted to know if and when I found the short. Evidently, I found it because the headlight switch and reverse stopped engaging the starter. I never did find the actual short. So the chipmunk has been chased from my wood pile but for how long?
I left everything in the column until the problem went away so to speak. I took the turn signal selector out inspected both connectors and wires and went about 6 inches back into the wiring harness, I found nothing, the turn signal selector had no impact on the started engaging.
Ford Excursion :: Only Left Side Headlights Working When Turn On The Brights

I got my headlights swapped but the turn signal sockets can't go into the housings. The old bulb socket thing is a 90 degree twist in and it would twist in if there was room for the socket to twist. The back of the housing has a blocky lumpy thing in the way and I need a straight in socket I guess.
View 14 RepliesFord Excursion :: 2005 - Electrical Upgrade To Make Headlights Brighter?
As I do my 2005+ headlight upgrade, I also want to do an electrical upgrade to make the headlights brighter.
I want to put relays in, instead of pumping all the current through the headlight switch and high beam switches.
Low beams separate in the engine bay fuse panel to feed separate 10 amp fuses. High beams separate at a splice point in the main harness.
I had planned on running 12 AWG wire, which I know is WAY overkill as it normally supports over 20 amps. I'd like to reuse as much of the factory wiring if I can so that I don't have abandoned wires floating around. What gauge wires Ford used for the Low Beam and High Beam feeds to the headlight connectors? I feel that 14 gauge should be fine.
Ford Excursion :: V10 Threw Fault Code - Dash Dim When Headlights Turned On
I got a check eng light and read the codes. Cam sensor, misfire 5 & 8. Replaced cam sensor. Got light twice more. Cam sensor. Cleared codes, now no light but, I lost bottom & mid range HP at a steady decline. Run like a scalded dog on top end. Replaced fuel filter on frame rail & air filter. No cure. Noticed dash dim when headlights turned on. Pulled pos battery cable engine died. Replaced alt old one tested good. Drove to parking spot no power damn near couldn't pull it self. Turned off wouldn't start. Before I turned off it would rev up perfect just no power to move. Had a camed up sound at an idle like a slight miss. No fault codes present. Ford claims crank sensor. Haven't replaced that yet. Have fuel in fuel rails. 10 coils could not have lost spark at once. Any part other than crank sensor?

My sister recently bought a 2007 Prius Package 6 with HID's. Her headlights will turn on for about 2-3 minutes then one will go out and then both will go out. If you turn off the headlights and turn them back on then they will both turn on again but only for a few minutes. What this can be? I figured it's not the bulbs since once they go out, they shouldn't come back on but I could be wrong.
