Prius V Fuel :: Mileage Decrease From About 43.3 To 38.5 MPG
Recently returned from trip from Austin Tx to Monroe LA. Gas mileage decreased from about 43.3 MPG to 38.5 MPG. A little annoyed by this but I guess I can attribute this to the increased weight in the vehicle. Still taking care in for other thing. Maintenance needed light came on & I assume it may be for a 15,000 mi checkup since it is nearing that mark.
View 3 RepliesPrius (2010-12) Fuel :: Hot Weather Mileage Decrease
I don't have a lot of data yet, but the last couple of times we had temps over 80F, my mileage took a significant hit - about as bad as when temps are below 20F (more than 10%)... Shutting off the A/C doesn't change things much...
View 19 RepliesPrius (Gen 2) Fuel :: 2007 - Mileage Drop By Over 20% When Put Summer Tires
This Easter I put summer tires on my "new" (owned about 4 weeks) prius -07, and cleaned and greased brakes.
With winter tires (almost new Nokia hakka xx, stud less) I got 4.5 l/100km (52mpg) easy and 4.2 (56mpg) at best, now I get 5.5 (42mpg) and 5.3 if I struggle, if I relax and put cruise control on I get 5.8 (40mpg). I travel 100km to work every day.
Summer tires is Michelin primacy (about 2 seasons?) pumped to 3.0/2.8 bar (over inflated).
Brakes don't seem hot after drive and they was really clean and easy to move after my service so my guess is that they work fine...
Mileage went down over the weekend so I see a clear link.
It was more fun trying to hypermile at 56mpg aiming for 60 then it is at 42 aiming for 45...
12v battery charged, just in case. Still same temperature out 1-8 C. Oil and all filters changed first week (will change trans axle oil in summer). Travel to work got 4% shorter so tire size must be a small reason to the +20% problem.
Prius (2010-12) Fuel :: New Tires Lead To Drop In Gas Mileage
Last October I needed new tires, so I had Michelin Defenders put on my 2011 Three in place of the OEM Firestones. The Michelins perform well and are nice and quiet, but...
My gas mileage (both indicated on the dash and calculated) has dropped by about ten percent. In researching the two brands of tire, I found that the OEM Firestones are rated at 836 revolutions per mile, and the Michelins are 839. I'm wondering if this is the reason for the apparent change in mileage.
Ford - Taurus :: 2005 - Can Cleaning A Mass Air Flow Decrease Mileage?
I had a check engine light on my 2005 Ford Taurus and my mechanic suggested cleaning the mass air flow. Afterwards, the light was off and the car seemed to drive fine ( it was driving fine even with the check engine light on) But my mileage dropped drastically. On the freeway it went all the way down to 10mpg! Right now around town it is fluctuating a bit, but around 14mpg. Should I have the mechanic check for a loose wire or something not connected properly? Or just replace the darn mass air flow?
View 9 RepliesGolf IV / Jetta IV :: Noticed A Gas Mileage Decrease
I have a 2004 volkswagen jetta wagon, 2.0l bev engine, 5 spd. I just recently replaced both oxygen sensors due to codes that popped up, but have noticed recently the gas mileage and performance have decreased. Now I get the code 16804 - Catalyst System; Bank 1: Efficiency Below Threshold P0420. The car passed smogged and all the readiness codes passed. One major noticeable different, is when I apply the gas, it is not accerlating like it should.
View 6 RepliesSanta FE SM (2001-06) :: Gas Mileage Decrease - Lost Around 4 MPG In City Driving
My 03 2.7 has suddenly lost around 4 MPG in city driving. Haven't taken it out on the highway to know where that is at. Used to get around 20/21 and now I'm around 16/17. Mileage is at 97k now and has new spark plugs and brakes done recently. I know the brakes are not dragging. All the fluids are fairly new and the car drives the same as before, I can't feel a difference in performance. Just lower gas mileage. I haven't changed out the T-stat yet, but the temp gauge in car reads the same as always. I checked the car with a code checker and there are no pending codes. I know this is the age where the oxygen sensors could start to go bad and have never replaced them.
View 12 RepliesToyota - Prius :: 2012 - Mileage Decrease Upto 50 Miles Per Gallon?
I bought a 2012 Prius new and averaged just under 53 miles per gallon for the first 15,000 miles regularly. I have a long commute so my driving mix of city/highway is pretty consistent. When starting the car one morning there was a fairly loud series of clicking sounds from the engine compartment, which then stopped. From that point forward the mileage has dropped to just under 50 mpg. Same driving habits. I am bringing the car if for it's 20,000 mile check up shortly. Any ideas if something happened to the battery I should ask about? It is still under warranty.
View 4 RepliesScion - Xb :: 5 Speed - Gas Mileage Varied And Fuel Mileage Increased
I've had my XB 5-speed for nearly a year and 10000 miles. It as been dead on reliable and fun to drive. My gas mileage has varied from 26 to 31 in mixed driving and from 32 to 35 on the highway. I use premium fuel only because I can get it without ethanol. My fuel mileage also increased a couple of mpg due to getting the power robbing ethanol out. True it is probably not enough to offset the extra expense but I like not having the stuff in my car. My only dissatisfactions has been with the transmission gear ratios. They are way to low. This torquy engine could easily do with a ratio that would drop about 500 rpm for more relaxed highway cruising.
As it is, though, my XB will go up any hill or long grade without breathing hard! Another is the instrumentation. I don't mind the center mounted set-up but speedometer and trip meter for mpg ratings are both inaccurate. My speedo reads about 2.5 mph high and the fuel mileage read out has about the same error, also on the high side. I have the stock 16" tires. The clutch has a narrow engagement band and can be difficult to be smooth on. The car is fairly quiet, is comfortable and this years hot, humid summer has shown it has one of the best air conditioners I have ever experienced in a car. I thought it might be an electric unit rather than a belt driven compressor because there is absolutely no perceived drag when the compressor kicks on.
Prius (Gen 2) Fuel :: MPG Decrease And Coasting Not At 99.9
I had my 2006 Prius (108k miles) shipped (on the back of a flatbed) from Los Angeles to Seattle in mid-October, and I noticed a drop of MPG pretty quickly. I went from 46mpg to now 34mpg over the last month, over 3 tanks of gas.
I have Goodyear tires, but I don't know the make of them (I remember they were 'High Efficiency' or something, meant for fuel economy) and I checked the PSI and it was 36 front, 34 rear. At first I thought it must be the tires but they seemed fine.
Then I thought it was the cold weather, but really the change in temperature wasn't very dramatic (until last week) as I was on the beach in LA where it was typically 65 and the past month in Seattle it would be typically 50-55 (this past week notwithstanding!).
Prius (Gen 3) Fuel :: Consumption With Speed Increase / Decrease
Since I got Prius I've noticed that driving at 50mph returns 80+mpg , 90+mpg if I let it gently glide at -1mph per 1 mile. As it gradually slows down, the mileage starts to decrease. By the time I get down to 45 mph the mileage shows around 70mpg,
I get down to 40mph, I'm only getting 50mpg. When I keep my speed between 40 and 45 I get about 52-55 mpg for the day. If I keep my speed between 45 and 50, I get 55-60mpg for the day.
Prius (2010-12) Fuel :: MPG Decrease On Both Long And Short Trips
I am suddenly getting 8 mpg decrease both long and short trips. Rotated tires, checked psi and did an alignment but couldn't find cause. I remember my old car had an engine thermostat and when that was stuck open or close the mpg decreased a lot too.
View 19 RepliesCamry :: 2011 LE / Mileage Decreased After New Tires?
I have a 2011 Camry LE with about 13,000 miles on it. I just replaced my tires with Bridgestone Turanza EL400 225/65/16 and now my mileage have drastically decreased, I used to get about 400 miles per tank driving strictly city, but now I'm lucky if I can actually reach 300 miles driving under the same condition (non aggressive city driving). Does increasing the width of the tires actually make this big of a difference in mileage?
View 14 RepliesPhaeton :: Nitrogen In Tires To Improve Mileage?
I have heard that many people are switching to the nitrogen in tires as it is to improve gas mileage. I know they offered it at the Lexus dealership, but I never took advantage of it.
Of course, the phaeton is not going to get the mpg as an echo or aveo even with the tires, but I am just curious...
Prius V :: After Changing Tires Mileage Drops?
Other than during cold winter weather, our 2+ year old Prius has been averaging 51-56mpg all around. Our tires needed changing and my spouse went to a tire dealer. The dealer recommended Cooper tires, a model supposed to get 50k miles. Almost immediately we now average 45-46mpg.
In looking back, we didn't buy tires that accentuate mpgs. Is there anything we can do short of selling the tires? And are they makes and models we should think about when it's time to change the tires?
Prius (Gen 3) Fuel :: Fuel Mileage Reduced When Driving In Rain
We gave the Prius a good workout in the rain for the first time today. Central Florida has been having serious amounts of heavy rain, creating water covered roads in our area. Normally the digital fuel mileage display shows around 55 MPG for most of our driving. However today it dropped to the upper forties very quickly.
We were running the wipers on continuous (low and med speeds), the AC (defrost) was running to keep the condensation off the windows, and the headlights were on. I wonder if the extra resistance of the water on the road also had an effect on the fuel mileage.
Even though we hit some fairly deep water and created large amounts of splash, the car tracked straight, the brakes worked well, and the power was totally uninterrupted. Other than the poor fuel milage we were impressed.
Ford Excursion :: Lowering 2wd Increase Mileage?
Been doing some research about MPG and towing. Can-Am RV recomends lowering your TT to increase mileage. I'm wondering if I could get lower profile (or just shorter) tires on my rig whether I could increase my mileage because of lowered wind resistance. I've weighed the rig so I know what my per axle weights are. My current tire capacity (Michelin M/S load range E) is way over the posted axle weights on the truck.

How much air pressure should you run on 305/70/16 tires?
I had tires rotated and the shop had them at 35psi. That was just too low and didn't drive well. I have about 42psi right now and they drive better.
I've heard everything from 35-50psi.
What do you run?
