Ford 6.0L Power Stroke Diesel :: 2003 - When Engine Get Warm It Starts To Smoke Unburnt Fuel
I have a may 2003 6.0l f350 4x4 ,autoenginuity scanner, recently bought the truck starts fine and idles well then when engine get warm it starts to smoke unburnt fuel (white) volume of fuel desired on scanner goes from about 14 mm~3 to 27mm~3 and starts to run rough if you depress the acellerator the motor smooths out and the fuel desired goes down. No coolant smell. egr cooler removed ,oil cooler replaced, exhaust back pressure sensor and tube cleaned .ebp sensor koeo 14.2, eo 17 but jumped to 54.0 when map was at 17, bp 31.20 .... The AE is new to me Also found a superchip tuner under the back seat ...

I just bought this 2007 F250 a 126K miles on it. Drove it about 1500 miles with no problems. I changed the coolant to Rotella ELC, installed Sinister Diesel Coolant and Oil Filter Bypass, and changed oil to Rotella 15W-40. 3 days after I did this it was in the mid 30's in the morning when I headed to town. It was blowing white smoke, so I stopped and smelled it. It did not smell sweet. I saw what looked liked diluted oil dripping from the exhaust. As I turned around it stopped. I revved it up and no smoke. I headed back into town(around 10 miles) no smoke. Drove home and no smoke. I was at home for about an hour and when I started the truck it was blowing white smoke.
I revved it up a couple times and it went away. I drove about 125 miles and no smoke. I let the truck sit about an hour and when I started it was blowing white smoke and no matter how much I revved the truck it did not go away. I went to work and the truck sat for 3 weeks. I just installed the blue spring kit. Started the truck and no smoke at first. Then, when it went to fast idle a little wisp of white smoke. As soon as I revved the truck up it got worse. Then it blew out what once again looked like diluted oil about 5 feet out the exhaust( I have a huge tractor weight sprayed with this). My first thought was maybe with the thicker oil I am getting some stiction so I am planning to change the oil to 5W-40 and add Hot Shot Secret tomorrow. But blowing the oil like substance out the exhaust has me concerned.

I have an 07 6.0 with 400,000 miles. Has been a great truck with no major problems. Before I started the work I had 3 bad injectors, running rough and the oil/ coolant temp just outside of 15 degrees. So I tour her down and replaced head gaskets, installed arp studs,all new injectors,all new glow plugs and new oil cooler. Ran great for a couple days. Then when driving to work lost power on and off for a few miles then completely gone could only go 10 miles an hour. I checked codes and there was the under boost code witch has been on there for a while and I forget the other code but it was for the ipr valve so I replaced the valve and right after still the same but that code went away and the p0470 popped up. So I cleaned out the ep sensor tube and replaced the valve. After several miles she now runs great but now I'm getting a little puff of white smoke when I take off and not every time and mainly when I take off some what quick. All codes are gone expect the under boost. I have an egr delete already.

no change, changed stand pipe and dummy plug on driver side, no change and guess what? Now I am stuck on the side of the road waiting to give my last $100 to a tow truck! Engine is hydrolocked, fuel pressure is low, starts off at around 20 and works up to 54 with key on engine off, and that is as much as I know from the side of the road with out my AE. Blew white smoke also. Smelled of unburnt diesel. I think it's linked to my rough running issue. Maybe a bad injector? But every time I did the click test they all passed. Idk, I'm gonna remove the glow plugs and see which hole is loaded and with what. . .

I would like the hear what others have to say about the problems I'm having with my 2006 F-350 sd xlt 6.0 with 113,000 miles on it. It's being used as a tool truck mostly going from a shop on the property to close by buildings on the same property. In other words very short distances. Used occasionally to take a dump trailer to a close by dumping ground.
1. White smoke from exhaust. I've read this is most likely an ERG cooler that needs replacing. Any other possible causes? If I end up having to replace the cooler is there a stock cooler that is reliable or should I get the one by bullet proof?
2. Diesel is dripping from the muffler weep hole. Last full tank lasted only 60 miles. Could this be the oil cooler? Anything else? If so is the Ford replacement cooler OK or should I go with an upgraded cooler?
Ford 6.0L Power Stroke Diesel :: Hesitation / Chugging And Bad Smoke
So lately I have been having issues with my 6.0 smoking, hesitating, and chugging. It seems worse when the vehicle has been idling for a minute or two (as in at a red light) and when I depress the accelerator it starts to move, but chugs and sputters, spurting light gray smoke, then the boost hits hard, the truck surges forward, leaving a massive cloud of smoke behind, then seems to run fine until I come to a stop again. I got the usual EGR codes, so I cleared the codes, pulled and cleaned the EGR valve of all built up soot and carbon, and reinstalled it. It seemed to run okay again right after doing that work on it, but then started acting up again this afternoon.
Shot the same codes for EGR (P0404, P1335). I cleared them again, and it continues to drive like crap. Other than EGR that I can look into? Or will I need to pull and clean the valve again tomorrow when the sun is up? At first I was thinking I might also be having fuel injector stiction issues, possibly turbo vane stiction issues, maybe FICM issues, but it's only feeding me codes for EGR.

I try to turn on my truck today and it will not crank. The day before I had change two injectors and I turned on the truck when two fill up my tank and I put a full bottle of injector cleaner with it. When I drove off, a few blocks down the truck turn off on me. I started to turn on the truck and every time I did it would blow heavy white smoke out the tail pipe and then it would shut off. I did this about 10 times until I decide to call a tow truck. The next day I empty out the fuel tank and fill it with diesel only. I tried to turn on the truck and it would not crank. yesterday I went out started my truck and white smoke started coming out my exhaust so I turned it off waited a bit started it back up let it run for a bit smoke went away drove it about 60 miles. Later that night it did the same thing but I was 2 gallons short on coolant drove it another 60 miles ran fine. Next morning decided to take it to a shop put more coolant in it drove maybe 20 miles to shop got there turned it off everything was fine never over heated once. So this shop is now telling me my trucks hydro locked and I steamed the EGR valve. And there telling me it's gonna be $8000 to fix it .

The whole backstory to this truck is one day a while back he was driving, noticed white smoke and instantly parked the truck at his house and fell on some hard times and couldn't get it fixed. The truck sat for some years and now was putting some life back into her.
I drained the oil and noticed right away the chocolate milk that was coming out of it, so right there I'm heading towards head gaskets.
What I am looking for is a list of the practical things to do to the engine while it is out on a stand. I am not looking for an extra 1000hp, just looking to bulletproof it so he won't have to worry about any other failures. I'm also looking for other maintenance items to change as well, maybe injector cups?

I was passed the other day by a newer (square mirrors) nice-looking Super Duty that was slightly spewing white exhaust smoke. As a life long truck driver, I know a few diesel smells (and I kinda like some ). But, this was so pungent that it was irritating my eyes inside my own cab.
It was so irritating and nasty smelling, that I had to slow down (to let him gain some ground) and open my windows to clear out my truck. So that I may be better informed, what could've caused this?

Replaced turbo stock with a wicked wheel. Truck smokes like crazy took turbo out rebuilt it and reinstalled in truck now truck pukes white smoke and has a of white smoke while idling. I don't get why. I've rebuilt injectors about two months ago. Truck is stock not bullet proofed at all. Truck has 170k head gaskets were done at 130k.

So This all started when I noticed my 03 Ex 6.0 started to not upshift every once and awhile.It has 300,000 miles on it.As far as I know it has never had tranny filter changed.So I said it shall be done.I did both internal and external filters and the fluid was very dark but not burnt.The pan was very clean and no sludge or metal on magnet.Put in new fluid and ran the truck until warm and checked fluid level and all was good.Now this where things get weird.Went for a drive and truck would not up from first easily or I had to feather pedal to upshift. If I put my foot into it I got a lot of black smoke after about 5 seconds and some sort of shuttering in the engine on deceleration. Ran AE for codes and nothing came up. The engine has EGR Delete. Blue spring, new injectors, glow plugs......

06' with 85,000 on it started smoking yesterday. When idling , and stopping at red light, and then sometimes it doesn't. Run it this afternoon for about 10 miles, let it warm up. Ran good and smooth didn't smoke when cranked then at the red light it started to put out a little white smoke. Drove back home, pulled egr valve and it did have a little wet on it, the coolant level has dropped some to. I scanned it and it didn't have any codes, no misfires or anything! Is it safe to say that the egr cooler has a small crack in it and its just starting to leak?

I have a 04 6.0l and all of a sudden it started dumping white/grey smoke at idle and when I drive it it goes to black then let off throttle and back to grey/white I had an up pipe leak at the y pipe I thought it might be an issue with that but I just got done fixing it and the problem still there so iam guessing it's either a sticky injector or the ficm but it starts up nice and does not knock around egr delete is don with all the goodies arp studs ect also the injectors have only 30k so it's hard to believe but iam just stumped haven't tested ficm yet and my tuner doesn't pick up any codes

So I am owning my first diesel so I am still getting use to it. Shortly after I bought it, I had to make my 900 mile drive to work and it ran great. After being here for a week or so I noticed heavy white smoke bit thought it had to do with the -5- -10. And haven't seen the white smoke since the weather warmed up. Since then I have noticed a "knocking" sound that to me sounded like a rod that I didn't notice before. After reading through these forums, it sounds like I probably have a cracked injector. I have had no engine light or anything. So my question is, can an injector fail or be cracked without an engine light and can a code reader detect which one it is with no light on?

Got a call from my wife earlier today. My 6.0 overheated on her and now its having issues.
Its got around 135k miles, always been taken care of, never missed an oil change and just recently changed/flushed the coolant system with Rotella Ultra ELC. I also cleaned the EGR, which looked great when I pulled it.
So tonight, she was driving it, and she gets the "check gauges" light come on, and notices its temp is hitting the red line. She pulls over, turns it off and calls me. I leave work, and pick up 4 gallons of distilled water just in case. It had cooled off a bit when I got there, so we added 3 gallons of distilled and it fired up and I drove it home. The temp was back to normal and running fine, but I was seeing a good bit of white smoke coming from the exhaust. I couldnt really tell if it was steam or something else. When I got home, I turned the truck off and the exhaust looked wet, which was odd since its about 80 degrees today, and there shouldn't be any condensation forming.
I let the truck sit for a few hours and went out to start it again, and now, the engine wont even turn over. The starter engages the flywheel, but it just goes "CLUNK!" and the crank never even tries to spin.
What is going on. The truck ran fine and was running at normal temp after I added the water. My wife didn't drive it but a few hundred yards after getting the "check guages" and noticing it was hot.
Is it possible that my EGR cooler or something has burst and filled my intake and engine with coolant, causing it to hydrolock? Or is the engine just completely seized?
