Elantra MD (2010-15) :: Accelerator Gas Pedal Sticking And Causing Engine To Rev Between Shifts
2012 Elantra - 105,000 miles 6 speed transmission
Throttle seems to be sticking and causing engine to rev between shifts, and staying slightly on after I let off the gas
Engine continues to rev up uncontrollably for about 10 seconds after feathering the gas pedal (between shifts). If I floor the gas pedal and release it quickly, it closes the throttle and fixes the issue.
Thought it may be a sticky throttle body, sprayed a generous amount of Carb and Choke cleaner into throttle body...did NOT resolve the issue. Its a Drive by wire, so no throttle cable to blame or to clean.
Turns out, the accelerator pedal assembly it self, is not returning/springing back to "up" or closed position and is sticking during the first few degrees of travel. It is very dirty, and gold.
How to clean/lubricate this thing? Its plastic. Or should I just order the replacement? I hope the pedal isn't programmed to the car itself? shouldn't be...but you never know
Elantra MD (2010-15) :: Small Clunk In The Front End Causing Hood Noise?
There is a small clunk in the front end and I think it could be the hood. When I press on it with my hand I get a small clunk. I have had the dealership look at it and they are not sure of any way to adjust it. Most cars have rubber topped screws to adjust the hood for a tight fit, but the elantra does not have it.
View 14 RepliesGolf/GTI VI :: Brakes Drag Or Get Stuck?
Yesterday I had my front end jacked up to adjust my coil-over's via spanner wrenches. After I had everything back on I lowered the car down and torqued the lug nuts. I got in to perform a test drive and maybe my parking brake was stuck, or my brakes were dragging. When I put it in reverse (Manual transmission) something was fighting me from moving. I applied the parking brake and then released it again. No luck, so I gave it some rev's and the car moved.
Now when going on sharper turns I hear a odd rubbing noise. It isn't from the wheels or tires. Today I checked my fender liners, because that is what it sounds like, they are ok. I though maybe somehow they were mis-aligned and it was causing the car the tire to rub. I sounds like it is coming from the right side. The car only has 500 miles on it and this problem started exactly after I lowered it down and the parking brake or a caliper was stuck.
Passat (B5) :: 2002 - Brakes Drag / Smoking When Get Off The Interstate
I have an 02 Passat 1.8t that drags the brakes when I am driving to the point that they start smoking when I get off the interstate and my gas mileage is terrible. When I first observed this dragging I popped the hood and found that the check valve on the hose that connects to the end of the intake manifold had a chunk missing and was hissing. I did some research and found that this hose leads to the brake booster so i bought a new valve at the stealership and installed it and I am still having the issue.
I checked all the other hoses around that area and underneath the manifold for leaks and the only thing I found was a hole in the small hose that connects to the very front of the intake manifold that leads to the N249 thingy which i fixed but i haven't tested the brakes yet. When I start my car after it hasn't been on for a while my car does alright for about 10 minutes before the brakes start dragging again. Also pumping my brakes doesn't seem to work much.
Jeep - Wrangler :: 1989 - Brakes Drag After Half Hour Of Usage
I have been having a brake drag problem with my '89 Jeep Wrangler. I posted this problem previously when I thought it was an E-brake issue. I did a rear drum spring set change. The problem persisted, so I asked the local auto parts store and they said it could be a faulty master cylinder which I just replaced. The brakes felt fine for the first 1/2 hour driving, then the pedal started feeling harder to push and the brakes were dragging again. I jacked the car up and removed the tires to find both front calipers tight on the rotor, the rears would spin. With someone pressing the pedal, I did not notice any caliper movement.
View 5 RepliesDodge - Neon :: Brakes Heat Up Then Starts To Drag And Lock Rear Wheel
My Neon's rear driver's side drum brake keeps locking up without me hitting the brake pedal. I have changed the hardware, wheel cylinder, brake shoes, brake hose, and the drum itself. Once the brakes heat up, the brake will start to drag (that is what it feels like) and then will lock up the rear wheel. I have bled those brakes at least 3 times, so I don't think there is an air bubble in the line. This has been going on for the last 2 months. Someone told me that I might have gotten a bad batch of brake shoes. Another told me that there might still be an air bubble in the line.
View 13 RepliesJeep - Cherokee :: Front Disc Brakes Are Creating A Small Amount Of Drag On Rotor
My front disc brakes are creating a small amount of drag on the rotor. With the car jacked up and wheel off I am able to easily turn the rotor by hand, but there is a small amount of drag. I haven't had any problems with my brakes, they have never frozen or overheated, etc. I put new brake pads and rotors on the front about 6 months ago only because it was time for replacement. The question is: how much disc brake drag is acceptable? Looking around on the internet for answers there doesn't seem to be a consensus: some people say absolutely no brake drag, some say that a small amount is normal. What do you think?
View 6 RepliesCamry :: 2010 Transmission Drag / Pull Feel - Always Downshifting
I have 2010 Camry Le 2.5l with 39600 miles on it. Bought used from my uncle. The car is pretty good but I don't like the nature of new 6 speed transmission. Its always downshifting and I can feel the drag feels like car is braking by it self. Is this transmission designed to do that? In my previous thread I post the same issue and got reply that I will get used to it but I already driven this car almost 2 months but I am not used to that drag/pull back feeling when ever I take my foot off the gas pedal. Is there any solution for this drag/pull feel?
View 8 RepliesPrius (2010-12) :: Wheel Bearing Sound / Slight Drag From The Pads On The Disc
I have a 2010 model 5 and am experiencing a woo, woo, woo, woo type sound. I thought it was from the rear but after jacking up and turning each rear wheel, all I hear is the slight drag from the pads on the disc. The car has 61K on it and from previous posts that seems to be about the mileage range for one. It is most noticeable above 25 to 45 mph. Bad front bearing with this sound? The car is covered under the platinum warranty so cost is not a problem, just getting it diagnosed is useful.
View 14 RepliesElantra MD (2010-15) :: Grabby Brakes When Rainy Or Wet And Going Very Slowly
I new 2015 Elantra LTD. has terribly grabby brakes in a certain scenario. That scenario is, it is rainy or wet, and I'm going very slowly, like in a parking lot. When I touch the brake pedal very lightly, the car stops abruptly! And I mean abruptly. As quick as the car comes to a halt, and not intended to, I suspect it is the front brakes. Not sure if it is the new brake pads acting peculiar, or some other issue. But, the brake grabbing problem isn't present when its dry and going slow, or when I'm going normal speeds when its wet.

so in my 2012 Elantra GLS, I just spent $500 on new brakes rotors ... and it's been roughly 7 or 8 days, and I am seeing some rust on the brakes and rotors, I'm no expert on cars, but it doesn't look normal. Hopefully, it is normal so I can stop stressing.
View 4 RepliesElantra MD (2010-15) :: 2011 - Rear Brakes Are Activating Before The Front
I'm not sure if this is the proper operation of the disc brakes because all my cars in the past were front disc and rear drum. A search turned up nothing useful so here I am.
To me, the sensation I'm having is the rear brakes are activating before the front. I sense the rear going down before the front. I don't hear any squealing or grinding. I also don't feel any vibration while braking. Perhaps it's a sensory illusion? Or is this the normal operation of disc brakes?
Elantra MD (2010-15) :: Huge Pop Sound / Sticky Rear Brakes
It is 10 degrees now (-12 C). I softly engaged the clutch and noticed the car wasn't moving. I tapped on the gas lightly and the car was trying to move, but couldn't. I finally gave it a lot of gas and there was a huge POP sound. When I park my car, I leave e-brake engaged. Are brakes suppose to stick that bad in cold weather? The Pop sounded like a .45 Pistol!!
View 9 RepliesElantra MD (2010-15) :: When Decelerating Brakes Totally Disengaged And Car Will Lurch Forward
I have the not-so-uncommon grinding brakes problem too. In my case, however, there is a scarier difference: if I have to stop suddenly and hit the brakes hard, I hear the grinding and the car kind of shakes, but then as the car is decelerating, I will actually get the feeling that the brakes have totally disengaged, and the car will lurch forward! If I then depress the brakes quickly, they will engage again and stop the car. I've had a couple of close calls in heavy traffic when cars in front of me have stopped suddenly.
I guess that the grinding might be the ABS, but I've never heard of ABS causing your brakes to konk out completely! It's to the point where I'm scared to drive the car if I know there's going to be much traffic. I bought this Elantra last October to have a nice new car to drive my 6 and 4 year old around, so I'm very unimpressed, and scared, with the whole situation.
Elantra MD (2010-15) :: Smoke Coming Out Of Right Rear Wheel - Brakes Dragging
Well this makes the 3rd time I am going to have to take my car into the dealer because of the right rear brakes. I had a guy pull up to me yesterday and tell me that I had smoke coming out of my right rear wheel, I pulled over nd the rotor had a slight blue glow to it and the caliper was smoking. This is starting to get old, I wonder when the lemon law kicks in on something like this?
View 8 RepliesToyota - Venza :: 2009 - Brakes Causing Vibrations In Few Months?
I have a 2009 Toyota Venza V6 AWD with 60,000 miles. A few months ago I had the front rotors and pads replaced by Sullivan Tire and Auto in Massachusetts. Since that time, the brakes have started causing a grinding or vibration. It ONLY occurs at very low speeds, especially in stop-and-go traffic on the highway and only after the car has warmed up with perhaps 20-30 minutes of driving with braking. You can feel it in the steering wheel and even in the seats. Sullivan has been AWESOME in trying to solve it, already replacing the rotors and pads once and having taken them apart two other times. They seem stumped and I can't find anything related on the internet. Several techs have taken it for a ride both with and without me and every one of them confirms the same strange grind/vibration/rub and under only the conditions noted above.
View 5 RepliesBrakes - Nissan :: Bearing Over Tightened Causing Scoring From Friction
I just had brakes redone at Nissan on a 2003 Pathfinder. Nissan said that when the last brake job was done (by Firestone), the bearings were overtightened causing "scoring" from friction. Nissan says there is a chance that this may have weakened the metal from repeated heating and cooling over about 40,000 miles.
Nissan said that it's unlikely, but possible, that a break can cause the wheel to fall off while I'm driving. I took it to Firestone who looked at it (see photos attached) and said it's just normal wear for a car with 140,000 miles... nothing to worry about. I'm a bit freaked out about notion that a wheel can fall off while I'm driving.
Elantra MD (2010-15) :: 2012 - Strange Vibrating Noise / Brakes Squeak When Stopped
I recently bought a new Elantra 2012, 2 months ago. While driving it during the first month, I heard a strange vibrating noise. I went to the dealer, since it's under warranty until 2019, and they told me that when Hyundai did their recall on their Engines, the head gasket was constructed wrong and they just had to order another head to fix it.
Fast-forward two weeks and I finally got my car back. At first, it's perfect! No noise or anything, but about a week later, yesterday, it starts to make the noise again.
For my second noise, I know it's the brakes. They squeak when I stop, even though the company I bought the car from is not allowed to sell brakes >50%, I'm assuming they did anyway. The problem I have with this is that yesterday, while on the highway, the breaks made the squealing noise regardless if I was braking or not. As long as the car was in motion, it made noise. Should I be concerned about this?
