Malibu - Chevrolet :: 2000 - Compressor Motor Clutch Is Not Engaging When AC Turned On

I have a 2000 chevy malibu that has not had a/c the past 2 summers. I'm trying to diagnose what the problem could be. When I start the car and then turn on the a/c by pressing the button in the car nothing seems to happen.

When I went to look at the compressor motor I could see that the clutch is not engage and the middle of the compressor is not turning. What to check without taking to a mechanic??

Electrical-wiring - Chevrolet - Suburban :: Dead Battery - Ride Control Compressor Runs For No Apparent Reason When Car Is Off

I have a 2001 Suburban (chevy) 5.3 liter Vortec engine, auto trans 4 wheel drive, fully loaded. As of late I come out in the morning to find a dead battery. this happened before and I disconnected the fuse for the dvd player that was installed aftermarket. some times I have to hit my dashboard to get the dash lights to work, now they dont work at all. sometimes the ride control compressor runs for no apparent reason when the car is off. I replaced the battery 3 years ago and it seemed to solve the problem until now. I replaced the battery with an optima red top yesterday and now the electrical system is going haywire. the ABS light is flashing and the service ride control light is on, the fuel gauge is bouncing back and forth from full to empty. What should I do. I am a fair mechanic but electrical is not my forte.

Lexus RX 2004-09 :: AC On RX330 Works Intermittently / Refrigerant Level Is Fine

The AC on our '04 RX330 has started acting up. Refrigerant level is fine. When the system works it's ice cold. It'll run more often than not, but occasionally the AC compressor just won't kick on. I searched the forum and found issues in other toyotas and lexus models with the magnetic clutch relay but for the life of me I can't find where that is on the RX. I also saw reference to an AC "servo" in another thread. What controls the AC compressor and what to check?

Chevrolet - S-10 :: 1998 - Refrigerant Capacity?

I've got a friend who had a leak repaired on his '98 Chevy S-10 pickup but didn't have the system recharged. I have a vacuum pump and gauges and told him I would pull a vacuum and recharge it for him, but he doesn't know the refrigerant capacity and I don't have manuals on this model. What is the capacity? I'm figuring 1.5-2 lbs but would like to know exactly what's recommended by GM before starting on it so I can tell him how much refrigerant to buy.

Ford A/C :: 2006 - Compressor Not Engaging?

I have an 06 F350 diesel, I had some work done on it that required the body to be raised on it. After I got it back the A/C didn't blow cold. I put it off for a while since I didn't need it. Anyways, the clutch isn't engaging so the compressor doesn't spin.

Things I have checked: Compressor rotates smoothly by hand. No blown fuses or bad relays (checked them all with meter). No results when jumpering the Hi/low press switches. Tried charging the system and the gage I got with the can goes to 80# and it maxed out. For the air gap on the clutch/shim idea, I tried pushing in on the clutch while it was running with a long extension to see if I could get it to engage, no luck

Grand Prix :: AC Compressor Not Engaging / Rattling

Last year my a/c worked off and on. so far now its not working at all. Compressor isn't kicking on. i bought a bottle of the EZchill refrigerant to recharge the system. I took the relay out and added 12+ to the pin to kick on the compressor. Even with the compressor running the gauges are in the blue range which is the normal operating range. With the compressor running, the air is cold but when i stick the relay back in the compressor wont kick back on. I tested the relay and its fine. Also the compressor is rattling.

Lexus GX 2010+ :: AC Blowing Hot Air - Compressor Not Engaging

First warm week of the year now my 2014 is blowing hot air! I played with all the appropriate buttons. Air on, air off, tried voice commands and no luck. From what I have read is could be the pressure switch or the compressor. The compressor is definitely not engaging and at 17,500 miles I would think there was still freon in it. I have not done a system diagnosis yet..not sure how.

Santa FE SM (2001-06) :: 2004 - AC Compressor Not Engaging

My mother in law has a Santa Fe 2004 with a ~2.4. The AC compressor quit working over the winter. The AC compressor does not react to turning on the AC button.

I checked the fuses. I also tried changing out the AC relay with another one and it still didn't respond. The relay also didn't sound as though it was clicking over. The AC indiacator light is working.

Could it be the actual button has failed or is there a way to check if the button is functioning?

How does the compressor know to engage? Is there a place I can test 12v at the compressor?

GTI 337/20th Anniversary :: 2005 - AC Compressor Is Not Engaging

So I have a 2005 gli here is what's going on. The ac compressor is not engaging, the reticulation button is not lighting up when pressed in, the cruise control is not coming on and the daytime running lights are not turning off when the hand brake is engaged. And the radiator cooling fans to not spin when the engine is first started. I have checked all the fuses inside and over the battery. I have checked the relays ( they click when hooked up to power). I'm suspecting a bad fan control module. I've done some searching and that's the only thing I have found that would control the fans and the ac.

Ford A/C :: 1999 Expedition - Compressor Not Engaging

129k miles, first time ever noticed a/c compressor not engaging -- hadn't tried a/c in a few months, winter and all... Jumpered the cycle switch and determined it was low pressure situation -- took to dealer, who recharged/diagnosed leak situation. Compressor oil leak at front seal (needs replacement) and refrigerant leak at manifold hose assembly.

However - compressor running nice and quiet, after recharge, no problems, silent operation. Couple questions:

1. Ford manual says no need to replace accumulator unless there is evidence of compressor failure (which mine hasn't yet) -- is that 'evidence' trash in the orifice tube? If so, where precisely is it? I know it's in one of the tube assemblies, but can't visualize the location from the diagrams.
2. Since my compressor hadn't failed, still running quiet/smooth, can I just replace that and the leaky hose assembly and be done w/it?
3. Is this a job that's beyond the moderately skilled garage mechanic? I handle most of my own jobs with exception of heavy engine (i.e., heads, etc) but have never attempted a/c-related due to the refrigerant portion of this job. I'm sure I can obtain the proper vacuum equipment somehow, if it's something that's not too overly complicated...

Gmc - Suburban :: 1994 - A/C Compressor Won't Work Intermittently?

I have a ac compressor that doesn't work all the time. I have read how voltage or low power can effect this. When mine does not start up, if you tap the end of the compressor with a rubber mallet, it engages and runs fine for an extended period. Am I dealing with a power supply issue, or could this just be a bad ac clutch?

Bonneville :: 1991 AC Compressor Engaging But Not Outputting Cold Air

I have a 1991 Bonne LE with 150,000 miles. Have had GREAT luck with this car but realize it is getting high miles. I recently drove it about 250 mile trip and the A/C worked perfectly staying nice and cold. The next time I drove it, when I turned the A/C on, it got cold after about 5-10 seconds and then it was like you turned only the blower on with no A/C. It does the same thing every time I turn the A/C on, gets cold fast, then just neutral temp with no cold air.

I checked the compressor switch and it is working fine, and the compressor is engaging and staying engaged, but not outputting cold air except for the first 10 seconds or so. I do believe the temperature door inside the dash is opening properly. What I might check myself before taking the car in for A/C service? I am capable of replacing the compressor & seals myself but would have to have someone discharge the system and then recharge it afterwards.

The car is a rebuilder that I bought about 10 years ago. The fellow (very trustworthy) who rebuilt it replaced all the A/C o-ring seals when I bought it and made sure the system was fully charged. It has worked perfectly this whole time. He also gave me the a/c compressor and other parts from the parts car that was used to rebuild this one.

Santa Fe (CM - 2007-12) :: Compressor Not Engaging When Press The AC Button

AC stop working after an alternator replacement ?. I tried crawling under the truck to see if the mechanic didn't plug the compressor back in as he said he had to take it off to get the Alt out, but it looks like the plug is fine. Would the refrigerant have leak all out when he took it off ?. Should I try to re - charge myself with Red - tek kit from Canadian tire ?. The compressor will spin easy enough when I reach down and move it by hand but will not engage when I press in the AC buttons.

Accent LC (2000-05) :: Air Conditioner Compressor Clutch Is Not Engaging

l have a 2000 model accent and the air conditioner compressor clutch is not engaging . you press the 'AC 'button and the indicator comes on when a fan speed is selected which l am sure is the correct operation.l checked for 12 volts at the coil terminals of the relay and there is no 12 volts.l shorted the switch contacts of AC relay and the compressor did engage so the wiring from the relay base to the the compressor clutch is ok. l also checked the contacts of the 'AC' switch itself and it seems to be ok. l haven't had much luck with sorting out the wiring from the switch to the relay as l do not have a wiring diagram.

Santa Fe (CM - 2007-12) :: AC Compressor Not Engaging / No Cooling From Unit

Have an issue with my front air con not working.....

When you start the car there is a rattle/squeaking noise, this sounds like a worn pulley, when you press the air con button to turn it on the noise stops. It does not make any sound changes to the unit/engine to indicate the compressor engages and the is no cooling from the unit.....

Is it a new compressor or is there a common fix for this issue?

Ford Ranger / B-Series :: 2001 - AC Compressor Not Engaging

I have a 2001 ranger 4x4 4.0 L with what appears to be a unique a/c problem. Over the last week the compressor will not kick on immediately and seems to randomly decide when it is going to function. Once it starts, it runs properly and cools well, until I turn the engine off and it is back to square one. We have checked the coolant level and it is full. the problem seems to be getting progressively worse....At first it took about 15 minutes for it to decide to trip, then 30 minutes, and yesterday I drove for over an hour and the compressor never kicked on.

Ford Super Duty (1999-2016) :: AC Compressor Is Not Engaging

2012 6.2 XLT 50,000 miles with manual single zone controls. I haven't had time to work on it yet, but it seems that my AC compressor is not engaging. The dash controls light up normal, fan comes on, etc. I am just looking to see if there are any common failure points. I know it COULD be low on charge, clutch could be bad, etc. I am just checking if there is a common failure with these trucks AC system.
