Chevrolet - Silverado :: 2002 - Won't Start With Key?

I have a 2002 Silverado. I am having problems with it starting. I turn the key to on, and nothing!! A friend told me how to reset or reprogram the key, turn to on 10 minutes 3 times. This does work, but it might be a day before it starts. I don't have a key with a chip in it, it's a regular key. Looking for info on bypassing the whole system.

Van - Chevrolet :: 1993 G20 Cranks But Won't Start At All?

I have a 1993 Chevy G20 van that was starting intermittently and now won't start at all. It cranks but doesn't start. On one of the occasions that I actually got it started I went to have the battery and alternator tested and was told that the alternator was good but the battery was low.

I then bought a battery charger and attempted to charge it. It has not started since. It also will not jump. I have tried to listen for the fuel pump and I don't hear anything...of course that could be because I don't know what to listen for.

So my question is: what more should I check before I give up and get it towed? I just want to be sure that I'm not spending all that money for a tow when it was something easy like a relay or a battery issue. I have some mechanical knowledge but no where to apply it (i.e.: my vehicle is outdoors and I don't have a lot of tools or a decent jack).

Pickup - Chevrolet :: 1993 - Cranks Fine But Won't Start?

A friend is stumped by a problem with his truck, so I thought I might get some insight here. I haven't actually seen the truck, all that follows is from what he described, I'm just the messenger here.

The truck had been running fine on a used engine installed about six months ago. Then he ran it out of gas, it hasn't run properly since. It cranks fine, but won't start. He says it WILL start when spraying starter fluid into the throttle body, but only while the starting fluid is supplied. He also says he disconnected the fuel line somewhere near the engine, cranked the engine, and got good fuel supply (but no fuel pressure gauge reading). He's done some logical things: new fuel pump, fuel filter, spark plugs and wires. No luck. Figuring that he'd sucked something ugly into the injectors, he decided to replace those with no change (yes, I cautioned him about throwing expensive parts at it with no clear reason).

He reasons that he must be getting spark based on the engine running with starter fluid, and there must be fuel based on his test with the open fuel line, so he thinks it's an electronic problem, presumably the signal to the injectors. This is out of my league...and my friend is a carpenter, not a mechanic. If he could get a scanner would this kind of problem register a code?

Starting - Chevrolet - Capriceclassic :: 1994 - Engine Cranks Very Slowly Almost Does Not Start

1994 Caprice Classic (350 cid LT1)... Engine cranks very slowly, almost doesn't start, sometimes starter disengages/re-engages. 1year ago mechanic checked batty, alternator and starter, all ok. I had starter replaced as it seemed the most likely cause. Eventually got better but now is worse again. Also notice a lot of movement on the dash voltmeter needle, sometimes high, sometimes low, turn signal moves the needle. Ive spent hundreds of dollars on troubleshooting and the new starter. What could be causing this?

Malibu - Chevrolet - Exhaustsystems - Classic :: 1983 Chevy Loses Power / Nearly Undrivable

I had an '83 Chevy Malibu Classic that slowly lost power until it was nearly undrivable. I rebuilt or replaced every fuel or spark related item I could think of. I finally had the catalytic converter and O-2 sensor replaced. It ran better, then the problem returned about 8,000 miles later. Disconnecting briefly the exhaust did not work. This suggested that I was sold a new converter for nothing, but the mechanic must have done something to get it to run better. The question is: what was the problem and what did the mechanic do to improve it? (hint: I had indications of coolant contamination in the valve covers, any connection?)

C/K :: 1997 Silverado Just Cranks Won't Turn Over

I have a 1997 Siverado with a 5.7L,auto trans. The truck has 162,000 miles on it . This it the first problem to come up since buying truck a year ago. All I know about this truck is that old owner took very good care of truck and did all the maintenance every 3,000 miles . He told me that he just replaced fuel pump and battery 1 year ago.

Well I noticed that the starter was dragging so I bought a new OEM, NOT the cheap ones priced at 59.99 . WOW! what a difference,worked like new.

Well 5 days go by and everything seems fine intil driving on freeway about 65 mph my truck seems to have a slight misfire and it did throw a code .

I had the code checked and code was a misfire code. All I did was change spark plugs and clear code. Everything seems fine for about 2 days and the truck starts to feel like it misfired a few times but did not throw a code.

I park my truck over night in my driveway over night,and in the morning I go to start the truck and it just cranks, does not turn over. So I crank over and over again. After a min of cranking ,sounds like starter got jammed ,MADE A clunk noise. I did hear some small back fires in mufflers . So I let it sit for a while and got some starting fluid and sprayed into TB and put everything back together and try again,it just cranks and has small back fires in the mufflers not loud at all.

Now it seems that I may have hurt my new starter . The starter engages and just cranks the engine for 2 seconds and then sounds like the starter motor is not engaged and just spins. I take the starter off to have it tested at local auto parts store . They say starter is in good condition. Pass their test.

So I put starter back on and it does same thing. Now it looks like I have 2 problems now. Do the battery has gotten to low on amps or volts? I can hear the fuel pump come when I turn the key to the on position,and then it turns off 2 or 3 seconds later.

C/K :: 1983 Chevy K-10 Start Violently Shaking When Going Down The Road

I have a 1983 chevy k-10 with a 350 and a th-350 trans. Every now and then it will start violently shaking as I'm going down the road. Almost feels like it's trying to engage into 4WD. But if I pull over and stop it will quit and i can resume driving. It was like every couple of months and only when i hit a large bump but now it's becoming more and more frequent to where i can't drive it. I've replaced the u-joints on the drive shafts, the manual lockout hubs, wheel bearing etc. I had decided it had to be the transfer case but my gut keeps saying it's the ball joints even though they feel good when you check them. I want my truck back.

F Series :: 1983 F150 Truck Won't Start - Battery Cables And Solenoid Very Hot

I have an 1983 F150 on a little island, so I have to be the mechanic. Yesterday the truck started then stalled and wouldn't start. I opened the hood and the battery cables, the fender mounted solenoid and the cable from the solenoid to the starter were too hot to touch. The battery was dead in about five minutes. I didn't have time to charge the battery, had to get back to the mainland. I bought a new solenoid and a new ignition switch today but where the problem might lie. I won't be able to get back to the truck until the weekend.

Chevrolet - Silverado :: Only Hot Air Coming Out Of Vents

I have a 2004 Chevy Silverado (4x4 Extended Cab 5.3 L Engine) that only seems to "heat" the interior of the vehicle through the floor and dash vents. Hot air comes out of the vents no matter what I do ( I can direct this flow of hot air to the floor, dash, or both) . Even whe I use the A/C at the coldest selection it does not change the fact that HOT air is coming out of the vents. I am guessing that a door of some sort is "stuck" so that only engine heat is coming into the cab. Not sure if that is possible but just a thought. Whats going on?
