Elantra HD (2006-10) :: Low Gas Mileage, Thermostat Stuck Open?
It's pretty cold these day where I live (about 2 weeks of -20C and lower). I know that winter can affect gas mileage but right now, I'm averaging about 13l/km (18mpg). I believe this is not normal.
I just bought the car and I noticed that the engine temp looks low to me (see pic attached). Is it supposed to run this cool? I also went to the garage and he checked with a obd2 scanner and nothing was wrong. Could a stuck thermostat be the cause of my poor gas mileage?
Ford Escape / Hybrid :: Coolant Thermostat Stuck Open?
If I don't replace it, will it cause any trouble?
View 5 RepliesCamry :: 2002 - Thermostat Not Opening / Stuck Closed
02 Camry 4 cyl.
If the thermostat ain't opening and is stuck shut, will the temperature gauge climb pretty quickly? right? I am in the process of flushing my radiator.
- I drained radiator, changed the T-stat with new OEM one and then filled with distilled water. (Ensured the jiggle valve is at 12 o clock)
- I idled the motor with cap off, heater on and purged the system of air... topped off with distilled water, waited till the fans came on etc...
- Temperature gauge reads in the normal range... even after 15 mile drive...
But, I expected the water to mix with old coolant left over and change color that hasn't happened... hence wondering.
Pontiac - Montana :: Code For EGR Valve Stuck Open After Replacement
I had a code for the EGR valve stuck open. I tried cleaning it but it didn't work (and didn't seem that dirty). Then I tried replacing it. Both times the code came back. What should I do now? I reset the code each time by disconnecting the battery.
View 14 RepliesCamry :: Throttle Body Valve Was Stuck Open
About, one month ago my car shut off while driving(pretty scary at the time). I pulled of the road and attempted to start it again. Everything looked good there, but as I was making my way home from work it started to act funny. It would not acknowledge me depressing the accelerator. When I got home, I ate supper, then went to have a look.
The car would turn on, but not acknowledge me pressing the accelerator at all, It did however go up to 30 mph at a snails pace as if it was coasting down a hill. I plugged in my code reader, and it read that the Throttle Body Valve was stuck open. I took it off and tore into to it a bit. I noticed the gears inside the TB itself were corroded and the butterfly valve was locked up.
I replaced the part, and tried to turn my car on with the new TB. All the dash lights are in working order, however upon turning the ignition to crank the engine, the whole car system shuts down. No lights no nothing, besides the car door open sound. The car will remain like this regardless of the key position until I have reset the batter(take off the terminals and put them back on) to which the process repeats itself.
The code reader says no codes are stored because I obviously reset the battery. So now am at a standstill.I believe the old TB froze up, because I had to run in through 3 ft standing water during a storm, and then deployed shortly after(I'm in the service) for a few months while letting the car sit.
Camry 2012+ :: Toyota SE - Sunroof Stuck In Open Position
Toyota camry SE 2012. The sunroof is stuck on the open position. It is fully open and the motor does not make any noise. The fuse is ok. Nothing seems stuck on the track just from a quick glance. I am hoping to find a way to manually close it if it is possible.
View 2 RepliesCamry :: 1995 Toyota V6 XLE - Driver Side Door Stuck And Won't Open From Outside Or Inside
I have a 1995 Toyota Camry V6 XLE and ...My driver's side door locked up and won't open from the outside or from the inside! Here are the problems:
1. I can put the key in the keyhole on the outside and it will turn clockwise but won't turn to the left at all- when I turn it clockwise it makes the normal sounds.
2. I can from the inside push the power door locks to lock and unlock and it moves the lock both ways on the drivers side, still won't open!
3. When I pull on the latch from the inside and from the outside I can hear the inner mechanisms moving, sounding like it wants to unlatch it from the locked position.
4. Now I am getting paranoid about the passenger side door because when I go to put the key in on the passenger side door lock, I can turn it to the Left to unlock the doors but the key won't turn to the right at all! It is a pain right now as it is to crawl over to the driver's side via the passenger door, but if that door locks up for some reason, I am really up the creek! I don't even lock that side right now b/c I'm afraid it might mess up like the driver's side door!

My thermostat is stuck closed so it needs replacing. I searched and couldn't find a DIY but there was a thread that says you need to take the whole front end off?
View 8 RepliesPassat (B5) :: 1999 - Overheating / Stuck Thermostat?
I have a question regarding a overheating problem I have with my 99GLS V6. I had the dealer do a timing belt, water pump, thermostat etc on my Passat about a year ago. I also have coolant leak in the metal pipes under my intake, which I haven't had a chance to tend to yet. I noticed recently that my car overheats and there was alot of pressure built up in the hoses. If I remember correctly, the thermostats are designed to fail in the open position. So I am wondering because of the leak, what's the chances that my thermostat could have failed in the closed position? I'm hoping its just air in the system and lack of coolant is causing this. It's been more than a year so I'll have to cough up the dough for this one.
View 10 RepliesPhaeton :: Thermostat Heating Control Circuit Open, Message Came On
My Phaeton has been running perfect since I got it. Yesterday I took it to the dealership to get fluids topped off and a wash. We have had a break in the weather the last couple of days, so I took my w12 on 465 and got it up to 120 before I chickened out. It continued to ride perfectly. This morning when I went out to start my honey do list the service engine soon light was on, it is still running perfect, but when I stopped by local auto store and had them pull the code it says "thermostat heating control circuit open". My middle temp stays at 200, when sitting still the left temp gauge goes almost to 200 however when driving it falls to under 160.
View 24 RepliesPassat (B5) :: Heat Stopped Working - Thermostat Replacement?
Yet another problem with my 2001 VW Passat V6 4Motion... This time it's the Thermostat.
My heat stopped working, and I brought it to the mechanic I always go to, and after a few hours of testing different pumps and hoses he's narrowed it down to the Thermostat. This is great it's only a 35 dollar part... BUT he says it takes a good 5-7 hours to replace due to the location. Is this true? He said the timing belt has to come off, which also means the bumper does...
He's not charging me labor for the initial diagnosis, since he didn't fix anything. (That's how he works), but I'm going to get charged for the 5-7 hours it takes to replace the Thermostat. My question is, is there an easier way to do this, or is 5-7 hours realistic?
Golf IV / Jetta IV :: Thermostat Replacement / Constant Leak From The Housing
Finally got around to replacing my Thermostat because the DIY here made it look so much easier than removing the alternator and such. Did everything exactly as described and after assembling everything with the new t-stat and O-ring I am getting a constant leak from the housing. I tried removing everything and reassembling...all the bolts are tight. Plastic housing isn't cracked and seems to be in great shape. Everything lines up properly but coolant is just running out of the bottom of the housing. Am I missing some magical trick here?

I replaced the thermostat and coolant now the car acts like it's running on 4 cylinders. It's a 1992 3.1. The car ran fine before I just can't figure out what I did. Its real hard starting ,runs extremely rough. And the cooling fans are coming on when cold. Disconnected the battery to to reset the computer. pulled the codes got 45 (rich).
View 6 RepliesFord 6.0L Power Stroke Diesel :: Bleed Air Out Of Coolant After Thermostat Replacement?
I'm about to replace my IPR and my thermostat, and just watched a video saying after replacing the thermostat you need to bleed the air out of the system to get rid of air pockets so you don't overheat the engine. Is this true and if so how do you do it? Also, how much coolant do I need to drain before taking off the upper radiator hose?
View 2 RepliesFord A/C :: Cooling System Won't Work When Idling - Surges - Thermostat Open After Engine Rave?
My 5.8L XL Windsor van is overheating when idling or in traffic but cooling just fine when moving on highways.
The 5 blade-fan comes on as soon as I turn the engine on and the radiator appears to be working just fine, cooling fluid moving and no leaks.
I am a landscaper in NYC and often haul heavy loads through slow moving traffic in the city and would love to drive relaxed and not with my eyes fixed on the temperature gauge awaiting impending disaster.
What is the best course of action?
a) change the clutch and see how it goes...
b) change the clutch, the fan and the water pump
c) install an electric fan
d) drive the van into the east river
Another issue, which has me and my friends puzzled, is that I changed the termostat a while back in an attempt to locate the problem; I replaced the old 195 degrees with a 180. Since the change 8 times out of 10 when I start the van as it is warming up I have to rave the engine for the termostat to open otherwise it does not and I end up with overheating bang. Once it is open no problem beside the overheating while idling.
And one final issue after driving for a while the motor surges when idling at a stop light or in heavy traffic. I have been thinking a bad air sensor but my mechanic or I have not been able to fix this issue for years.
Toyota - Camry :: 2005 - Rear Calipers Stuck Open And Rear Brakes Not Working And Rusted
I have a 2005 Toyota Camry that we purchased 14 months ago. When purchased it had bad brakes so the dealer replaced the rotors and calipers at their expense. A month ago I took the car in for a routine oil change and was notified that my rear calipers were stuck open and that my rear brakes were not working and rusted. The rotors look hardly worn, the one on the passenger side has some deep grooves in it and the driver side is pitted. We feel that we had poor work done when the brakes were replaced and that the back never worked. After the brake job was done we would get some "chinging" noise in the back brakes and I had them inspected twice and they said everything was fine. But now we find out they weren't fine.
View 8 RepliesAudi - A4 :: 2002 - Still Overheat After Replacement Of Water Pump / Thermostat And Timing Belt?
I have a 2002 Audi A4 1.8T with 85,000 miles. Recently my car started overheating, I replaced the water pump, thermostat, and timing belt. The mechanic also ran tests to make sure there were no issues with the head gasket, those tests came back saying the head gasket was a-ok. Yet, my car is still overheating but only on days when the outside temperature creeps above 90 and I am in stop and go traffic. I have to re-fill the coolant tank about once a week depending on how much I drive. I find no coolant puddles under my car when it is parked, so I do not believe it is leaking. What else could be causing my car to overheat?
View 2 RepliesFord 6.0L Power Stroke Diesel :: 2005 F250 Running Really Cool / Thermostat Replacement?
I recently noticed my 2005 F250 6.0 was running really cool, like barely making it out of the 170's. I guess it is time to replace my thermostat which I just replaced about two years ago. The question is should I replace it with another stock 192 degree thermostat or go for a 200 degree Mishimoto? I found where some where going to that one and it is supposed to make everything run better and the thermostat lasts longer. Any pros or cons to installing a hotter one?

I have unfortunately inherited a 2007 Toyota Camry LE at the passing of an uncle. I recently purchased an Innova 3140 b diagnostic scanner which pulled up several codes. One of which keeps popping back.
P0128 refers to (according to innova).
Coolant Thermostat (Coolant Temp Below Thermostat Regulating Temperature).
I have replaced the coolant temperature sensor but the codes came back after a few days. I cleared it once again and the code reappeared that same day. I have a thermostat on standby ready to install if the fix requires such.
