Silverado :: 1996 Will Not Shift Out Of First Gear - 4l60e Transmission

I have a 1996 Silverado and it will not shift out of first gear. I have had the pickup for about 6 months and when I got it, it would shift if I accelerated to about 30 and let off but then I went though some mud and got stuck, I kept shifting from reverse to forward and I got out of the mud and it would not come out of first but reverse works fine and it will not shift manually at all the pickup has a 4l60e transmission.

Silverado :: 98 Chevy Truck With 4L60E Has No Second Gear - Shift From 1st Into 3rd

I have a 98 Chevy truck with a 4L60E. It has no second gear. I was sitting in park for about 10 minutes with the engine running, then put it in drive and it never shifted into second. It felt like it went straight to 3rd. I played with it manually until I figured out I had reverse, 1st, 3rd, 4th and torque converter lockup, just no second gear. My acceleration rate was medium and when I reach about 27-28 mph it would shift from 1st into 3rd. It has 230K on it so I rebuilt it with all the typical parts - frictions, steels, band, sun shell etc., still no second. I then pulled the pan back off and replaced the spacer plate and put in a shift kit. While I had it down I put a corvette servo in and did an air check. It worked fine. I could feel the band tighten.

Both the 1-2 and 2-3 solenoids checked good at 23 ohms. I swapped their positions to see if it would make a difference. I also checked to make sure the 1-2 accumulator piston wasn't stuck in its bore, the spring was new from the shift kit. It was fine. Put it back together...still no second gear. When I originally pulled the pan off for the rebuild, the pan was free of any debris and was very clean. I then drove it a couple of miles to a local transmission shop. They put their scan tool on it and drove it around the block. There were no codes and the ECM was calling for second gear. It doesn't sound mechanical since almost all the parts have been replaced, rebuilt or inspected that affect the 1-2 shift. It sounds electrical. Is there anything I have missed?

97 Silverado - 5.7 with 4l60e trans. truck will not shift into 2nd gear while driving. stays in first gear until rpm are high and shifts into 3rd. under hard acceleration will stay in 1st until let off gas then shift into 3rd. manual shifting results in same, no 2nd gear until selector is moved into 3rd then shifts into 3rd. Haven't got any trans codes, fluid change netted no change in performance, fluid was pretty dirty but didn't smell burned, and there were no metal shavings in pan.

Suburban :: 4L60E, Transmission Misses The Shift

If I accelerate gently and keep the rpm down to about 2500 or less, I get a normal shift from 2 to 3 and I can then accelerate with vigor without any apparent problem.

If I accelerate the way I normally drive, at the 2 to 3 shift point the transmission misses the shift and I have to let off the throttle for a few seconds and wait for 3rd to engage. I usually see no codes, but once in a while P0758 reappears.

Both solenoids A and B have been replaced, as described in the thread referenced above.

More symptoms, and maybe this is a vital clue: the 3 to 4 shift is fine, but I've noticed that lockup takes a while to occur. When locked up, I normally see almost exactly 2000 rpm at 70 mph. I am seeing about 2150 rpm at 70 mph until lockup finally takes place, but I can't say exactly when it does happen---I have to watch the road now and again.

I understand there are a 3-2 solenoid and a pressure control solenoid, but I don't know enough about their purposes to decide that either needs to be replaced.

i have a 94 vw passat vr6 that wont shift. when you start off in drive it takes a second for it to start to move. if you shift it manually from first on up it shifts okay but sometimes it slips in between 2nd and 3rd. the only time the car will shift is after driving it a few miles at about 65-70 it will shift itself into second gear and not come out you have to shut the car off and wait a few minutes to "reset" itself. after driving it on the highway it kicked itself into second gear, i pulled over and the fan was on and it looked as if there was some fluid on top of the transmission but cant recall if it had been there earlier. i checked the ATF and there was no shortage of fluid. could the fan be on due to the transmission over heating? what could be the cause of it not shifting?

My '94 Volvo Sedan just loses power, no dash lights come on, it just silently dies. It starts right back up. I took it to a mechanic who checked out the fuel pumps (he said there were 2) and they tested fine. He replaced the fuel filter. It is still dying. It seems to happen when it is hotter, mornings are fine. It hasn't happened in the last few days because the temp has been about 82 tops. I read earlier today on this site that it could be the ignition module. I have replaced the air filter, and am running fuel injector cleaner also.

I am having problems with my 1994 hyundai excel 5spd man. trans...when i drive the car it seems fine but if i go up a hill it stumbles and loses power very quickly and cant make it up the hill. It feels like the motor starts jerking and stumbling but if i put it in reverse and reverse up the same hill it has tons of power and doesn't run rough.....the car hasn't been driven much in the last 6 months or so and the fuel gauge says 3/4 full...the motor also idles good but takes a long time to warm up (like 20 mins or so even when driving it around in 75-80F weather).

1994 corvette auto trans, when car is parked or in drive with foot on the brake will start to idle up, the back down and like lunge forward if in drive and foot on the brake. Then if you drive it, and step on it, it will miss fire. My mechanis put it on his scanner but it showed no problems. The opti- spark, wires, plugs were replaced 2 years ago and 12,000 miles ago.

Ford Transmission :: C6 Does Not Automatically Shift Out Of 1st

I recently did a C6 rebuild on my 78 4X4. After the rebuild, when I go for a drive, the transmission does not AUTOMATICALLY shift out of 1st.

1. I can shift MANUALLY from 1st to 2nd with no problem, but it never goes into 3rd in D. If it was a system pressure issue, I suspect that I couldn't engage at all?
2. In Drive it just seems to be in 1st the whole time no matter how high the rpm.
3. I checked the vacuum at the modulator and I get 18 in .
4. I have tried every color modulator band and have the black one in now.
5. During the rebuild, I cleaned the governor, so I don't think it would be jammed up since it wouldn't shift even when I first drove it.
6. During the rebuild, I cleaned the valve body.
7. I confirmed the kick down is free.
8. I get a hard shift in reverse and from 2nd to 1st, but when I go to Drive, and then second, I dont notice a hard kick. Could it be that I messed up the orientation of the front clutch seal? (I hope this isn't the case!)

Here is the last couple of things I can do:

1. Could the intermediate band be the issue if I can shift in manual if it's not shifting hard?
2. The mechanic said it could still be a governor gunked up, but I'm skeptical since it never worked after the cleaning.
3. The filter screen pan from the rebuild seems to sit higher than the original that has a pipe that hangs lower. Is this the suction or the return from the system. If it's the suction I can put the original in.

Is it bad to drive her in manual if I need to? Obviously I'll keep the speed low since I can't get into 3rd. When I air pressure tested the transmission before the install, everything engaged like it was supposed to and all of my clearances were solid.

At the beginning it was just CEL on. I checked the code and change transmission range sensor but it worked for few days only. Light came back and transmission sometimes stop to shift automatically. D1 on display and driving only on first gear, but when I switch to tiptronic - manually everything works great?!

1994 f250 7.3 turbo problem.. runs great on the level.. Cruises 65 no problem.. We have an 8% grade coming from town and half way up it starts cutting out and sounds like a jack brake under the hood and loses power.. Once over the top it clears out and runs fine again.... I just changed the fuel filters but no luck... I have been wrenching on cars all my life but no diesels..

For a while now my transmission has only been able to shift manually for about the first mile of travel when cold or if it sits for more than a couple of hrs.
I drove it that way for a while. Now it only shifts manually all the time and I have to shift from 2nd straight to overdrive. It won't shift to 3rd but stays in second gear until I shift to OD. Then I do have OD.

Dodge - Durango - Transmissions :: 2003 - Jerk When Shift Automatically

I recently, within last 2 weeks, started to have what feels like a "jerk" when my automatic Durango shifts. The "jerk" occurs when the car is cold (sporadic) and after the car is hot. When the car is hot it's a lot more noticeable and frequent. The durango has over 120K miles and the last transmission fluid flush it had, and the only one done, was about 99K.

I took it to my mechanic, he didn't do the transmission flush, and after a whole day of tests and diagnostics he says that the car has all the right timings and the only thing he could recommend is a transmission flush. He thinks the viscosity or correct viscosity could be causing this. My mechanic is fair and one of the better ones I've dealt with. In fact me didn't charge me at all for the work done.

Lexus RX 2010-15 :: Side Mirrors Angle Downwards Automatically When Shift To Reverse

When I shift to reverse, the side mirrors angle downwards automatically. The driver's side one squeaks when it does this. Any tip to remove the squeak.

I recently upgraded my puddle lamps to blue LEDs to match my interior lights and took the opportunity to spray a little bit of WD40 on the mechanism. I didn't use much, since the mirrors are basically friction fit I didn't think it wise to spray all over, but that didn't seem to make any difference.

The mirror still seems to move freely enough and nothing obvious is rubbing.

Saturn - Vue :: 2002 - Loses Power When Put Car In First Gear And Tried To Accelerate

My wife has a 2002 Saturn Vue with the 2.2L 4cyl engine and a manual transmission. Yesterday she started it in the morning and backed out of the driveway. When she put it in first gear and tried to accelerate, the engine lost power and the car crept along around 5mph. The SES light came on as well. She took it to Autozone and they plugged it in but did not get any codes from it. I disconnected the battery today for about an hour, reconnected it(thinking it might be a computer issue?) and then test drove it and got the same result but this time without the SES light. The engine revs just fine out of gear or when in first gear and not trying to accelerate. It seems to only lose power when under load. I'm lost.

Honda - Accord :: Sports Light Come On And Off Intermittently And Shift Drives Automatically While Driving

I recently purchase a 1991 Honda Accord. When I test drove it the sports light was not on. However when I did the final drive home the sports light was on and would not go off with the switch button. I was reading online and from several responses this seems to be a TCU concern and not the transmission. I gather some info from the internet and it explains how to change the resistor and capacitor in the TCU for under $5 bucks. I did not do this but I did unhook the battery and the sports light was off and came on and off with the button. This only lasted a week. Now the sports light come on and off intermittently and shift drives automatically while driving. Is this a electrical or transmission issue??????. Should I just get brave and refer to the under $5 bucks TCU repair and do it myself or take it to a mechanic.
